Anyone ever eat them? I have read a few articles on line that they have good meat, but a little bony. I'm thinking they would be an easy way to have a large fish fry if they are good eating, because they are thousands of them in the local rivers.

They eat various species of redhorse and other suckers quite often in some places up north. When I was a kid and we lived in WI for a while, we'd always bring home the suckers we caught along with anything else, fillet and fry them up together, they were great.

Well, we netted a about twenty today around a pound to two pounds. I fileted all of them and the meat looked good. Saw the extra row of bones though. Fried up a few filets tonight and it was excellent. The meat is firm and white. The downside is the extra bones. I'm going to try to figure out how to cut them out. If I can do that, wow...untapped fish fry supply.

Are they easy to catch on rod and reel?

I'm not sure. I caught mine in a cast net. Took about 5 minutes to get 20 plus in the cooler. I have read about people using small hooks and red wigglers to catch them on rod and reel, but in the places I'm seeing them you would never get that worm past all the bream.

Yeah, most of the redhorse type suckers I've caught on the past have been on nightcrawlers. I imagine you could catch them on single kernals of corn as well.
But both baits will be attacked by bluegill pretty fast lol.

Shoot If I caught a bluegill I wouldn't worry about it. I'd eat him or use him for bait.
