Do any of you guys fish your carolina rig with braid and a flouro or mono leader? I have a freind of mine that has been trying it and not having much success so just curious if there is something to it just a run of bad luck?
Thanks
Scott

I have tried it a couple of times in various situations and dont like the break ratio. The braid is very unforgiving to the mono. I do like the sensitivity of the rig but have since stopped using the braid/mono combo. I will use 17 to 20 lb line with a 14-15 leader.

heck yeah only way I fish'em... I use 30 pound power pro and 20 pound original stren but I want to try some good floro. My partner uses either 50 ripcord or 50 power pro with equal results... We went out twice in the last four days and caught 35. 22 of them were on this rig... Quickly becoming one of my go to's on my local lake. Never seen a FISH break it but DO NOT try to fish it in the stick ups you will get hung... Weed beds and rocky humps havn't been any trouble. Don't be afraid to move it. I move this rig along pretty fast. Fish'n the rip rap at the dam can be trouble if you fish it to slow especially. It should be on the bottom but almost never stationary

I run 50 and 65lb power pro with a 20 or 25lb flouro leader with awesome results...do not drop below 20 on the leader or you will be breaking the it on the hookset if you set the hook like i do. JR

I personally enjoy the sensitivity and obviously the pure strength of the braid but on C-rig sensitivity isn't generally a problem. I'd stick to 17-20 lb mono.

i always use braid with carolina rigs, you can feel the bottom so much better, just use a heavy mono or fluorocarbon leader

I have used braid as a main line for the C rig for years with 15 pound test P-line CXX as my leader and haven't had any problems. Not only can you feel whats going on down there better with the braid, I think you get better hook sets due to the non stretch of the braid. I use 50 pound test Izor line braid.

30 lb. power pro and 20 lb fluro leader has worked for me on c-rigs which has become my go-to set up all this season. The sensitivity of the braid can't be matched in my opinion.
At least my boat and truck are paid for, woo hoo!

Scott I use 50lb braid with a 14 or 15 lb mono leader. No problems, but then the C Rig is a last resort option for me.

I use 65 Power Pro and 20 Floro. I have caught many fish with this rig. My only problem was fishing with a buddy of mine and we where on one of his brush piles. I hooked his pile and while trying to break off, I realized I was lifting the brush pile up off the bottom. At one point it actually fell off the ledge he had it on, but I was able to lift it back up. To be honest from that point forward I started debating moving to a smaller Floro leader, but since I have not had that problem again, I decided to stick with it for points.

I tried braid on the main line when it first came out, with a mono leader and found that the braid causes the hook to embed in stuff much more than a mono main line. It is just unforgiving. I now use 20# P-line on the main line and a 12 to 15# leader with much better results.

I have recently moved over to braid and no not use a leader. I use the slip on carolina keepers and tie directly on the main line. I have not noticed a difference at all in amount of fish. If anything I have been catching more fish on the braid w/o a mono leader.

Those carolina keepers are sooo much better and faster than tying the original way. 1 line only.
