I have '05 Merc 225 Optimax & I trying to get what the normal operating temperatures for that motor is. I realize it varies, but I'm looking for approximate temps at idle speed & 4000 +.
Thanks for your help.
Jeff

My Opti runs around mid 120s to low 130s when motoring this time of year. If I idle around it overheats and always has. Several techs have looked at it and can't find anything wrong so I don't idle. When the temp gets to 120 I take off.

Jeff....Idle temp in the mid to upper 120's and up on plane it will run at 118 to the low 120's. Dayne you need to get that problem fixed that's not normal you should be able to idle all day at idle and not overheat if your running a system veiw gauage that only read the tempeture off of the port head and thats not a ture reading for the whole engine the strbd head could be running hotter or colder. A strbd head that has trash in the thermostat which will run colder will cause the opposite head to run hotter need to have that fixed.....OPTI

Dayne, thanks man. OPTI, thanks also! My engine used to run in the ranges (120's)until the dealer serviced it, installing new water pump & thermostats (my request). I'm taking it back into them this morning to have them install a new hydraulic jack plate & will get them to address the temp issue as well.
Thanks!

Opti it has been looked at by 2 different dealerships and checked out on the computer. Nothing shows up. We changed out the thermostats and impellor and nothing changed. It is 6 years old and has done it all of its life. I have it checked out at least yearly and sometimes more often.
