Umm lots of people bring generators and spots to fish for trout, mostly around Galveston and PINS.
We used to..
Works better in the bay.

A few years back while fishing the beach in Fourchon, La., there was a guy that had a converted school bus made into a camper/RV that was painted blue w/ fish murals painted on it. He called himself the "Master Baiter" and the name was painted on the side of his bus/RV. He would have 2 generators going and would hang lights on poles all the way out to the 3rd sandbar. He would then wade out and fish the lights at dark. He caught some beautiful trout and reds doing that. I saw it myself and wouldn't have believed it if I wouldn't have been there. The surf was flat that week, but I would think it would be pretty tough when it's rough.
I have also hung Coleman lanterns in the bay before on a tall pole and have fished around it at night and have done real well with the trout and reds. What was a little scary was when a large, dark shadow would be swimming right outside the lights. Sometimes they were sharks and sometimes they were dolphins, but at night you couldn't tell so well.
Good Luck to all!!!

We fish at Roll Over, Quintanna and the Jetty every year. We have done so fot the past 20 years or so. I have not seen anyone dot the light thing in the surf. We always have better luck under our lights at night. It seems we have more fish for a longer period of time to fish for thatn we do in the day time.

I have used lights and a generator while fishing the beach, but its , more used to see the reels and what not. We have tried to use them to get attract trout but so far it hasn't worked yet. Maybe on a calm night and a light on a really long pole it would work. Something to look into.....
