I've heard that the topwater bite is great on Texoma. What time of day do I need to go? And do the typical topwater lures work or is there one that is better than the other? Thanks for any help. God bless and have a great Wednesday.

.. now for some pertinant info from soneone who fishes 7 days per week .. what you need is a 4 inch top water lure.. bigger is not wokring near as good lately. usually this time of year im using 6 inch pencil poppers but right now 4 inch chug bugs are producing 30-60 fish most days on top in the first couple hours of daylight. sometimes longer on cloudy days.

fish wind blown banks and points with deep water access nearby. When i say banks i really mean up on the bank. sometimes in 6 inches of water and as close to the banks as you can get and still be wet smile
The windier the day the better the bite has been. the few calmer days we've have been the slowest. Today with practically no wind was slow but still got 23 on top but mostly smaller fish than usuall. best day this week was in 30mph winds when i had to keep the big motor running in reverse just to keep us off the banks...
Top water fish have been in and around the islands and north up the washita to the Rr bridge.
its all blind casting. you generally wont see them surfacing but in the right spots it can be fast and furious action.
this time of year i start most of my trips chunking top waters and probably 50% of the time the last couple weeks have had a limit before we even put up the chugs.

Man, I want to bring the ole Skeeter up there but 30mph winds scare the flush outta me... ever since I saw what it took to withstand Texoma's Deadliest Catch... bolt Trying to time a trip up there, morning or night to make it work. Gotta put that use it or lose it JD knowledge to the test. flehan

Hey guys
I'll be heading out to Texoma for the first time tomorrow and will be out there all weekend.
I don't have much experience using artificials although I will toss one out everynow and then. My plan was to pick up some minnows and go for stripers.
Any tips on the best spots to net some ghost minnows and how you'd fish them would definitely be appreciated!

does it matter much on the colors of the top water baits?

JD is dead on...

Took the wife out again last night...

I will add a few pointers...

I have been fishin' the 2nd shift...(work and working on my house most the day)

Tip #1...

Don't stop fishin' once the sun is down! smile WE caught roughly 15 + after it was DARK! 15-17" striper...

Tip #2...

Wife was using a 4" chart/silver chug bug
I was using a 4" blue/silver top dog
Thus, the color I don't think really mattered...

Tip #3...

like JD said, we were hittin' the bank and draggin' our lure back into the water...fish were attackin' it as it touched the water...

Tip #4...

If the fish go down...throw a small slab (TNT 180 for example)...picked up several while the wife was still workin' the chug bug

BTW...we weren't fishin' any of the spots JD said! smile

I do not know about ghost minnows but most of the coves have shad in them. I have not used ghost minnows on Texoma in years. I normally only use them when targeting sand bass. They are even harder to keep alive than shad. Also, look for egrets hopping and flying the banks and get out in front of them.

You can try going to where the roads ends in the water on Preston point.
