How does that work? Long line trolling. For long line trolling I usually tie on two 1/6 ounce jigs about 18 inches apart with different color jigs to determine what color is producing the most. For me black/chart was the magic color. Today I trolled with 4 rods and cast them about 30 to 40 feet behind the boat. I use a handheld GPS to troll at .9 mph. I trolled in 12 feet of water.

Nice job Terrence!!! I have played around with the long line trolling, but I really need to spend some time with it and learn to do it right.

Yep...Wes and I have been doing some long lining as well. It's pretty popular in the SouthEastern states. We use the same rig...two 1/16 oz jigs tied about 18" - 24" apart...and troll as slow/fast as you want...depending on depth. It's a little tricky at first to figure out how deep you are trolling. I went shallower and shallower until I started hitting the bottom to figure that out. Have not perfected it yet, but working on it...great tactic for suspended fish

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

Learned how to long line jigs from an old man in Alabama. He won a Classic trolling jigs.
He uses 1 jig. 1/16th ounce, 6# line. Speed can vary. He trolls with about 60' line out. He knows at a certain speed his jigs are x amount deep. If his jigs are running 7' deep and he is in 15' water, he sees brush or fish at 12'. He spins his t/m and stalls the boat. Once the boat stops, he starts counting, one thousand, two thousand, three thousand accounting for one foot fall per count. Once his jigs have fallen to the desired depth, he takes off and does a zig zag. This pulls the jigs up, and to the left and then to the right. He also ties a weak knot. If one jig hangs, he doesn't stop and breaks off quickly and continues. He also throws a buoy out when he hangs or marks a b/p so he can troll back over and know when to speed up or slow down. You can speed up to pull the jigs over the top of brush. He tells me the best times are post spawn when the fish are suspending less than 15'. Once they get deep, he spider rigs.

Sounds like a lot of work! Fun Though
