 Prop Performance: SS vs. Aluminum

Got a question. I've been doing a lot of research on props for my boat...tried lots of different diameters and pitches...only to find that the 14"x17p aluminum that I have, seems to give me the best performance...acceleration AND speed...strangely enough!
So, I got my hands on a 13.375"x17p Stainless prop...same blade design...but I haven't had a chance to try it, and won't get to until Wednesday.
The last stainless I tried was a 20p...and my motor just couldn't spin it up...I never got on plane at all. I know that this new one is obviously heavier than my aluminum...and its the same pitch as what has been working for me...but I'm dying of curiousity right now.
First question...do you think I'll have spin-up problems with this new one?
Second question...will a stainless get better acceleration and top speed? (assuming ideal size/pitch)

I belive I would ask a prop guy like steve custom prop's he could answer you best onn that ...

As long as they are the same size/design, you should experience similar performance. You may see a little more top end speed out of the SS prop as it won't flex as much as the aluminum.
Not sure how the smaller diameter will impact your performance though. Steve can answer this question better than I can.

Idling along and hit a stump one time and you'll be repairing or replacing the alluminum.

if blade designs are the same they should perform the same. the sst prop will most likely run "slightly" faster, and most definately last alot longer! as huck said!

Took it out today...gained about 3/5 mph! It was very sensitive to the trim position, though...I'm not sure what the term for it is, but the prop would spin up and not be grabbing water sometimes. I got the hang of it finally...just had to know where to have it trimmed for what speed/RPM.

I call it cavitating(don't know if it's that for sure). That's a big pain. THe more load you put on it the worse it seems to be on my boat. If I am overweight it will do it bad. If yours does it with just you in it you may have a pretty good problem to deal with.
