Just wondering how often some of you eat panfish? I'm currently eating fish I catch about 2 times a month but I'm considering a panfish meal 4 times a month for the next few months. wink

Provided you mean panfish smaller than crappie, I've never done it.

I understand your delima...I had to resort to eating nutria when things got tough for me. Don't worry it will get better. Keep working hard, keep your chin up, and don't lose faith. Once I started selling plasma but had to stop after they said you could not donate more than twice a week. There is govt. assistance availible if needed. They have it down to a point now where you get to swipe a card at the check out counter that looks like a real card from a real bank.

DUDE I am jerking with you and I hope you know that. As long as you are not frying them each time you each them go for it. As far as that is concerned, its not business if you do fry them each time. I love perch broiled whole and then dipped in butter.

Not bad on the half shell over charcoal in a covered grill. Season with paprika, butter, tad of lemon juice, diced onions, salt and pepper!

MUCHO GOOD!

Rudy

If I have them in my freezer or can get out and catch a mess from my pond, I eat them 2-3 times a week! That's all fish, but bream, crappie and catfish are 3 of my favorites, but then again, most species of fish will work for me.

And with the lower-on-the-food-chain fish like crappie and bluegill there really aren't the mercury worries and things that come with the bigger fish (catfish, bass, etc). I'd eat em a few times a week if I could!

Mix a little lemon, salt, pepper, all the other good dry spices, and a tiny bit of olive oil and roll the fillets in them, then wrap in aluminum foil and in the oven or on the grill...Delicious and a whole lot healthier than fried!

Same as above but stuff em with veggies. I can't eat lots of "just fish" without veggies for whatever reason. I can when they are fried though!

I eat fish about 2-3 times a month when I can, more in the summer, and often fried because I'm too lazy to actually cook. They are better stuffed and grilled IMO though.

Diddo. I love bream and will eat them over any other fish. I just don't get to go to enough spots to get the real nice, big bream. This Sunday I am going fishing in a friend of mines lake/pond that is loaded with coppernose, native and red-ear bream. I usually catch all I want to clean in one trip. I'll post pic's if I remember to take my camera.

Fillet and skin the bream, cut out the ribcage, cut the fillets into 1" squares. Put them in a tupperware bowl or a ziplock bag and pour some freshly-squeezed lemon and lime juice over them. Seal them up and put them in the refrigerator for 1-4 hours - the juice "cooks" them. . Put them in a bowl, pour some pico-de-gallo over them and have a feast! Put them out for hors doerves and your guests will eat them until they are stuffed full.

I have never had ceviche made from fresh water fish. You are obviously comfortable with the calculus of parasite-prone fish with whatever neutralizing effects the citric acid imparts. Cooking kills the parasites. Take a look at the worms near the dorsal fin of some fish. I've pulled bream from spring fed crystal clear streams that had worms in their flesh. What about the ones that are not visible to the naked eye.

I've eaten ceviche made from bluegill many, many times and I'm still very, very healthy.

Now that's a friend. I may be all messed up, but I just don't ever intentionally kill BG in my ponds(or allow anyone else to do so either).

I certainly like to eat them and will keep 'em from public lakes, but I love growing and catching big BG just too much to eat them. Like Monk says, its a blessing and a curse. loco
