I haven't fished Grapevine at all for Crappie but about 15 years ago I did at Lewisville. At Lewisville, I fished the trees west of 35 near Pilot Knoll but haven't been for years. I would like to get back into Crappie just need direction. Thanks

I dont do LL but on the vine the key is structure, build you some condo or brush piles, set them on main lake points in 18-25 feet on steep dropoffs and you will catch them like crazy summer through late fall, the vine has the best crappie fishing around DFW I think as far as numbers and size goes,I use anything chartruse tipped with minnows,I prefer roadrunners with crappie asassins but anything chartruse will work, that is the way I do it,I am sure there are lots of other things that work but I stay with what I have been doing there for 10+ years, just watch out for all the boat traffic that place can get crazy on the weekends.

Hey Skeeter, I am new to the vine and sure would love to catch some crappie..wife and I have been spanking the whites and I told her I would not bring another fish home to clean unless it was the ole so good to eat Mr.White Perch. I have yet to find a good map showing the drop offs and I have been all over that lake a looking. Any hints as to where we could get into a mess of crappie?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Life can be best understood looking back, but it can only be lived looking forward !

I will be fishing ray bob the next couple of weeks and have only been to the vine once in the last couple of months, that day was like trying to fish the gulf of mexico,I did not try any brush piles or condos due to the wind so I cant give you any good current info.,get you some marker bouys and keep them handy and keep an eye out for any kind of structure even if it is only a couple of feet off the bottom, throw a marker on it and fish it,some of my old brush piles are only a couple of feet high but fish will stack up on them,if you look in the areas I mentioned before you will find some,if it is windy fish boot slips at any of the three marinas or around privite boat houses, alot of them have brush piles in or around them, but the best way is to sink your own then you will know where it is,I do not give exact locations because of the time and effort it took me and who ever else built them to put them there is wasted if they become common knowledge,I think a trip with Jeff Schiller would be the best way to learn a few of them and how to fish them,I have never fished with him but see him out there alot,he can put you on crappie if you can get him away from chasing sandys.
