The motor is a '05 150 opti- was working great until I bumped a stump-i could see some wood in the hole and tried cleaning by twisting a small drill bit with my fingers-I cant get it all out- and I'm scared to use an electric drill--- does anyone know of an easy way to remove wood/debris from the speedo hole without dropping the lower unit?? I may just have to wait until next year when i replace the impeller again.

personally i wouldn't worry about it. i betchya 90% of the speedo's around are the same way as yours! a good gps is the only way to go. i do use a drill bit to get the wood out, but i know exactly how to do it. i have broken off many a drill bit doing it, just part of it.

Wrap masking tape around the drill bit to make it easier to spin with your fingers.
Stress less, relax more. Go fishing.

Mine has been plugged up for a long time. I never look at it, I always go by GPS. But, I am one of those types that have to have everything working. If it is there, it must work. One day, I will fix it.

Get a good variable speed cordless, like a Dewalt, etc. Use a drill ( most people call it a bit, but it's a drill) that's much smaller than the hole, leaving room for error. Then turn it VERY VERY sloooooowly using that variable speed drill/driver. ---- gclark, I know the feeling about having to "fix" everything. If something is not working, it's simply money tied up that is of no benefit to me. Cant tolerate that. Not at all.
Now, Donald...please pick John Bolton for your running mate.
