Is there any place on the net that would show some excellent pictures and give some good instruction's on using and reading a depth/fish finder?

Here is a site foe Eagle that has a emulator that you can install on your PC.
it will give you all the controls of a eagle unit.
if you dont have a Eagle unit it most likely will still help to understand to hows and whys.

Lowrance has a tutorial on their site along with a lot of emulators which you can download and practice using.

two things to know in order to understand a fishfinder screen:
1 - only the most right hand column of pixels shows what's under you right now, everything else is just history.
2 - a lit up pixel represents an object somewhere inside a circle centered under the transducer, with a diameter about 1/3 the depth. So an object on the screen at 30 feet is somewhere within 5 feet of your transom; you don't know whether its left, right, ahead, behind or straight down.

1/3 the depth is just a general rule, some stuff outside the cone will show up on the screen.

jtexas. that is the information i have wanted to hear for about 3 years now. The one thing i have never figured out is the fish finders i have had in the past show changing structure under my transudcer constantly. Even when i am completely still. Any idea. Is it just because they are cheap.

I really don't think anything in or on a lake is ever completely still.

I am learning myself but have found some real good info at the two site listed below. Doc Sampsons hightec site is also good. He posts on the bassholes site.

www.bbcboards.zeroforum/zeroforum

You may find too much info. It's keeping me up all night.
