I dont know anything about this fish, but have read posts on how fun it is to reel one in. Do you use the same swim baits you use for striper? Do they have the same patterns as a striper? thanks

I fished for them like shallow blue cats or flatheads. Only have caught a couple though, don't really know the lake that well until nowish.

I would carolina rig cut or live whole shad, shrimp, live perch, live/ cut tilapia on the east side of the lane along the points with reeds or grass cover.
You may also look over by the dam in deep water. Greg, Paul, and I picked up a good bunch trolling DD14 and DD22's.
There are a few here that are sage in redfish information maybe they will offer some advice.

they are fun to catch but ive never caught a stripper in my whole entire life. I did but it was catch and release. Get on points and lock down on bottom with live bait, cut or whole shad. No one will have to tell you when you get a bite. Use rod holders or contribute to the "Underwater Freight Train Lost Rod&Reel Club" Trolling provides success if you really know what you are doing ie; Mr. Redfin, Mr. D.Miller, or Mr. R.Bush. In my limited knowledge of reds, bait will out fish lures on the ratio of about 8-1.

Just about any lure will work when the reds go into a good feed as long as your putting it near their mouth....but since the water is probably very hot now and the redfish sluggish I would use live or cut bait on or suspended just above bottom to keep it out of the hydrilla and in the fishes face.

Whats a good depth to fish for them? In pretty deep water? Planning on going camping there next week (tues/wed/thurs) and was hoping to catch a few reds. Never have fished for them before.

bsc, Hire Jackie for a half day teaching trip and he will show you how and where to catch them for the rest of your trip. It will save you time and money in the long run.

i recommend hiring jackieblue for an educational and productive trip you won't regret. CAUTION this type of fishing can be addictive, causing restless to sleepless nites the day before, and occaisional marital discord. i'll be leaving arlington within the next couple of hours for my weekly fix. damn that price of gas

Jackie: Passed you last Monday morning as you were leaving around 1:00 AM. Then thought I saw you back early Monday afternoon. No pictures lately? We bowfished until daylight then hooked five reds from daylight to about noon. I'd still be getting skunked without the knowledge transfer you provided last year during our trip. Thanks and see you on the lake.
