Friday 5/08/08 Had a fair night at Galveston Fishing Pier . Me and wife caught 4 keeper drums , 2 throwback reds(small) 4 nice whiting, one which was 2 oz off the world record. Dam thing had a set of teeth you would not believe. Also caught 3 bonnetheads , 7 stingrays and a 100000000000000000 hardheads . Water was still off colored and yucky . Hopefully good water will get here soon so we can get some Specks and Macs and Flounder .

Husker depends on what you planning on catching . When the water is dirty I use dead shrimp or cut bait . When it is green live bait , shrimp , mudfish , crab , fingermullet .

Thanks, bobtex. I know my son would love to catch a shark, I would like to catch a stingray, but like all true fishermen, any ole fis'll do!! One more thing if you will, do we buy the bait on the pier, or get it somewhere else. Maybe we will get to meet you when we are there. Thanks again.

The Galveston Fishing Pier only sale frozen bait no live. Bluwave that is a good question . I guess the same place the really BIG gafttop are . Not in the Galveston Surf. For the 2nd yr in a row the Gafttop are small . Have not seen one over 7 lbs . And very few Blacktips . I am sure this warmer air will bring the Blacktips in . mmmmmmmmmmm Love grilled Blacktip .

Keep those reports coming Bobtx. I look fortward to them all the time.
If the wind would EVER stop blowing, maybe some fresh trout fillets will be making the grease smell. I'm getting itchy, but I know that wind needs to die to have some success in the surf with the specks. Hopefully I can add to the reports soon. I need to get out there.

Well this year has fallen to pieces, began the year with plans to be in Galveston at least 5 times by now, and here we are today and I am just hoping that my 3 weeks for the 4th of July doesn't get cancelled.

Hopefully this year will call for a little less rain than last year and if all goes well I won't get stranded offshore waiting at anchor for 3 hours for Seatow to arrive smile

Keep the posts coming, nothing wrong with a little jealousy here in Dallas.

Last year after the 4th we were catch big Gafttop in Gilcrest.
I never keep them because of so much red meat and a pain to clean.

Friday 16th 08 Galveston Fishing Pier . Water was sandy green . Saw some Specks caught earlier in the day . Also saw some keeper reds. My wife and I caught 2 keeper reds, 3 keeper drum , 1 keeper sheepshead. We also caught about 30 undersize drum and 4 other undersize reds. Fishing was good till after low tide and water sandied up. Then the hardheads moved in and we moved on back home . The Galveston Fishing Piers annual Speckeled Trout and Spanish Mac Tourneys have started . Easy to enter , when you buy an admission ticket you are entered. Winners 5 top fish in ether species can win $50. to $300.

Fished The Galveston fishing pier 05/19/08 starting at about 0830 am. We started in the shallows, but the water was pretty sandy and only small stuff biting. We moved to the t-head where there was some green water just in casting range. I caught a blacktip shark that measured 2 inches under 4ft. I caught it on trout tackle so it was a little work ( I was trying to catch some cut bait for my med heavy pole). I saw several other Black tips and bonnet heads landed. Also there were some cow nosed rays.
