Hope someone can give me some tips on a electrical problem. Here goes. I just finish rebuilding a motor for my 93 4runner. I dropped it in, plug everything up, and nothing. The motor does not turn over. So I checked the battery of course and has a full voltage and amps. So I decided to check the starter to see if power was going to it, and there was. I checked the switch wire, and here is the problem. It had constant power to it. I figure that it would continually turn the motor over. pulled starter and it works fine. But here is the crazy part. I accidentally touch the test light to the body of the car and found out that the body and motor have a slight positive charge? I used a regular test light and grounded the clip to the neg side of battery and touch the other end to any metal part of the car/motor and it would light up dimly. Is that a sign of a short somewhere? It ran fine before I swapped motors and disconnected every wire before pulling out the motor.
Thanks for any input.

check your ground from the battery to the engine and from the frame to the engine.

Stan you are a life saver! I can't tell you thank you enough. I went out there and grounded the motor to the frame and neg battery cable to the body also and it fixed it! Windows go up and down, fuel pump runs, etc. I can't believe I lost two nights of sleep over this. I never thought that a small ground wire would cause it to act that way and I have rebuilt many motors and never has that happen. This is a lesson learned. Now is that normal for the body/frame to have a slight positive charge if not grounded properly or do I still have a problem? Thanks again Stan.

that is normal if the ground is missing, you will have a positive charge, until the ground completes the path.you should not have any other problems if you have it grounded properly.
