dmunsie, I know you are not a fan of mine but thank you for at least not being ignorant about the size of a lake and the eco-system in general. Only a fool would think bowfisherman could cause damage that resembles a fish kill. Only a person with an anti-bowfishing agenda would bring it up with no knowledge about the lake.

Who knows. Maybe thay were caught on rod and reel and were injured, bleeding or died from the fight like the fish on this post.

Carp are not indigenous. So, if they all died out it is not a bad thing! Enuff said!

True Bass,
I have been seeing the carp on Lake Pat for the last couple of weeks. I have looked close without handling, and have not seen any holes in them. I would say there are hundreds of them. Some are out in the lake, but most are along the shore line.

Question? Why do folks who shoot or catch rough fish leave them at the boat ramp for everybody to have to smell as they rot?

100's? This is not good. Carp are usually one of the last fish to die in the event of water quality going bad. I am really hoping this is not a sign of something worse about to happen.

Carp has recently ended their spawning period, I wonder if some kind of mass kill from spawning has happened?

I would agree with your assesment. I saw well over 100 dead or dying carp all over the lake. From my expirence with blooms such as Golden algea it always hits the little fish first and then moves up the ladder and I only saw dead carp. There were no other species floating that I noticed. Anyway the water is to warm for Golden Algea, it could be some other kind of bloom but I have no idea what. I did not notice any kind of wounds in the fish to indicate bowfishing. It would be hard to believe that a bowfisher could shoot that kind of numbers anyway.

I was talking to a guy at work that fished Pat yesterday and he said he saw lots of dead carp as well. He did well with the crappie though.

If you guys will notice on algea kills it kills more carp and gar than anything. I have had a biologist tell me that the bass and many other species will leave the bloom area (if they can) and the gar and carp stay until its too late...That is why a lot of them are killed (this is very true for the Ivie blooms I have seen).

I am not saying this is the case for pat cleburne but it is the case for carp in general.

I was out there yesterday all day. There are lots and lots of them. If these were killed bowfishing, somebody was at it for a long time. I looked at a couple pretty close and did not see any holes. None of the carp I saw were small ones either they were all big to huge.

Enough of the carp war between the anglers and bowfisherfolk! We're all tired of hearing it. If there was a Carp dye off, did anyone contact Tp&W and report it?

There were no gar floating. I did see plenty of gar feeding while fishing yesterday and they all looked healthy. This is only carp.
