My 2 cents. I have found that most folks are wanting to follow the rules and a quick word usually is receieved gratefully. Like Mark said at least you can try if you see them messing up. I totally agree. Most folks will listen and they just need a little guidance to do the right thing (or they simply didn't know in the first place). Help others along the way and you will recieve all that back in time.

I learned my fish measuring from a game warden about 20 years ago and they have alot better method. crush the front of the lips against the measure board and pray that the tail covers 10. That lesson was expensive and still abide by it now.

what good is a crappie that small anyway...unless you are a well trained heart surgeon with a very small knife you can't get enough meat off a crappie that small to justify the hassle in cleaning it. watch this guy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_GGcgIFUlw&feature=related

I'm sorta like the Game Warden in my way of thinkg. If it's someone with kids I explain the length and bag limits to them, but if they give me anhy carp that's why I keep the GW,Operation Game Thief and the county dispatcher's numbers in my phone. Seems like a lot of people listen better when they see that badge and gun. If I call and the GW showsw up I point him in the right direction and step back and let him handle it.
I would almost go with having to take a written test when buying a fishing license. Pass the test and you have no excuse when it comes to folling the regulations.

Dang sure looks like someone else needs a FishTaco, it would be a whole lot cheaper that a $200 to $4800 dollar fine plus you get a free pack of jigs. CrappieMaster

I like that idea...you'd be surprised how many folks wait till they catch something before the try to figure out if its legal

what good is a crappie that small anyway...unless you are a well trained heart surgeon with a very small knife you can't get enough meat off a crappie that small to justify the hassle in cleaning it. Just scale them, cut off the heads and clean out the guts. Fry them whole! I do it all the time for Bream and Perch. It's actually my favorite way to eat them. I only filet them becaue my wife prefers them that way. I love eating them off the bone. Growing up in Louisiana, there wasn't a size limit. We ate some small ones on days when things were slim to nothing. Also, I think there are a couple of lakes in Texas where the winter months require you to keep your first 25, period. I THINK Toledo Bend is one. All that being said, I'm not breaking any laws that were put into place to make our fishing better in Texas. The Management boys give size limits a lot more thought and study then most of us will ever even consider. I also don't have a problem calling the game warden on blatent offenders of the law.
That's why they call it fishing and not catching!

I have my Taco and measure any fish that aren't "obvious" when it comes to keeping them.
I need to get the GW or that Operation Game Thief number on my cell, though I haven't seen anyone in the past year or two keeping any undersized fish (though I used too at the coast all the time).
Anyone have that number off hand? Is it on the TP&W web-page?
