Sniper, yea the wind has been brutal lately. I have just started fishing GV more recently because it is so close to home. I normally fish Fork but been real busy and gas prices are ridiculous. I am really trying hard to learn GV so I hav a place to fish close to home. Plus I really like the lake.
I really hope someone can help out with the crappie. Everyone I have talked to so far has had the same issue finding them. Sandies seem to be easy to find but not the crappie.

Thanks fishin'aholic.....every little bit helps.
I have yet to fish twin coves. We tried to head over there Monday evening but the wind/waves were a too much and we didn't want to have to come back across the lake in those onditions at night. If weather is good Friday night, I will be out there and might give twin coves a try.
Any idea on night fishing in twin coves? Is one cove better than the other?

Plenty of Big Crappie at the Vine. Been fishing crappie from there for over 10yrs but last year was not able too. The lake was to messed up from rain. I only ever fish one spot because I never have to move. Normally always catch a limit there. So keep that jig or minnow in the water and keep searching when you find them you should have a spot for all summer long. Grapevine for me seems as if the fish hold tight during the summer.

And just to add to LipRippin, GV was messed up the year before that with water levels also. It's been two seasons since it has been really consistent. It can be very consistent though. The key is brushpiles/condos and the little bit of natural cover that holds fish year in and year out. You'll have to invest time on the water to find these locations. But once you do, you will establish a "milk run". You will hit one spot and get bored with it from catching fish and then move to the next spot. In my short time fishing it this year before I was cursed, I found between 10 and 12 new brush piles between 15 and 25' of water that are probably holding fish right now. It's a wide depth range to cover, but that's the range you need to look in. Start in the 15' range and work out looking at depth changes - ledges and drop offs - and you will find some brushpiles/condos. I think someone was awfully busy this winter.

if there is one hint i can give you, its fish in the slips of silverlake marina, green trailer or live minnows, pole length in the water. i have pulled out some 2.6 to 3 lbs out of there

I tore up the crappie shallow in Twin Coves last year and the year before and the year before that. Not this year. Not a nibble yet. I dropped my own brush piles also and not fish on them in over a month. Maybe with the water level getting back down they will turn around.

Howdy Again
Sorry to post so late but we took a quick run to the Border for some dental work and now we are in Florida to visit my daughter from England...Confusing I know. Anyway I started Crappie fishing Sunday the 4th. using a yellow carppie jig I caught 4 that went 13 to 14.5 inches. Switched to Minnows and did a little better. Caught one that went 3 #'s one that went 2#'s. Also caught several just over the minimum. Total of 8 from about 5:30pm til dark. I will be fishing here in the sunshine state in a couple days if anyone is interested in a report. Goodluck

I have a slip at Silverlake and we were catching some huge crappie a month or so ago on jigs. Lately nothing has been caught on jigs except for throwbacks. Finally got some keepers last weekend on Minnows. My advice for Grapevine is to either A, have a boat and find and empty slip or B, try to slip into Silverlake when others are going to their slips. The marina is always hopping with people walking around and you should be able to get in pretty easily..just my .02.
Good Luck!
