I put this in the boats and motors section too but I fugured since I have a bass boat and many of you guys do to you could probably help me out.
I have a 2005 Skeeter. I have never waxed it before other than the spray on stuff after I wash it. The shine has dulled a little and now I want to restore it. I am thinking about buying an electric buffer and doing it that way. Problem is I have never done this before. Is it hard? How do I do it and what type of waxes and stuff do I need to buy? Thanks for your help!

To begin with make sure it is clean, get some Maguire's cleaner wax and apply like you would your car using a variable buffer with a sponge pad, buff wile still damp. Then wipe with a clean rag. You may have to do this a few times to get the look you want. If it still looks dull you may have to be more aggressive. Maguire's makes polishing compound you may have to use. Then go back over with the cleaner wax. Be careful to not stay in one spot to long! You don't want to put burn marks in the gel coat. Good luck FISHMAN

does vinegar and water work good to wipe a boat down when getting off of the water? How much do you dilute it?

who does a good job of buffing out the clear coat to get rid of scratches?
Whether you think you can or you can't, you are probably right.

I am restoring a 95 Ranger right now. I am having to wet sand with 800 grit to get through the haze. Of course, you have to be careful to not get all the way into the flake.
3M makes a great liquid rubbing compound, then I am following it up with 3M Marine Polymer Wax.
So far...so good.

on the rubbing compound do you just wipe it on and wipe off or do you use the buffer with it?

You will need to rub it on and wipe it off. It may take some rubbing with the pad you are putting it on with to get out some spots. I use the 3-M compound for removing scuff marks. I then waxed the boat with Pro-Tec sealer wax with UV blockers in it. Then I use Bass Boat Saver every two or three trips to the lake to keep it looking new. Bass Boat Saver can be used on the whole boat EXCEPT for the trailer unless you are into the pain you get from slipping off the trailer and getting a HUGE knot on your shin. BBS is some slick stuff.
One more thing, if you use BBS on your seats be careful the first time you sit on the butt seat up front, you might just slip right off it.

SKEETER TZX the compound would be used if the cleaner wax will not cut it! Try using the cleaner wax maybe once or twice to see if that is all you need to get the shine back! if not then you will need to get more aggressive that's when the compound would be your next step! Good luck let me know how it turned out. If you run into a problem PM me I might have the answer for you. I have completed 10 boats total refurbish, been down a lot of these roads. FISHMAN LL I Have used #M also it is some good stuff good luck with the Ranger Have done some wet sanding on the last Ranger I did it was a 91 year, What a job. FISHMAN
