I get about 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn out of mine (100 hp)I just snug it up good. Never had a leak.

If you're lucky enough to live by the lake...you're lucky enough

I snug mine up with my hands, just like you would with an automobile engine, and haven't had an issue with leaks.

Tighten it as tight as you can with your hands. Leave the filter wrench off of it. As your motor heats up and cools down, the O-Ring on the filter will swell. If you tighten too much, it will be a bear to get off on your next oil change. You can tighten it about 1/8 turn more with the wrench after you tighten it with your hands if you don't feel good about it.

Make sure to apply a small amount of oil on the seal, so that it will be easier to remove the next time thumb

Wix makes an excellent aftermarket filter, I don't know what brand of engine you have but the aftermarket filters are less expensive.

It ain't easy making it look easy.
