I'm new to the posting on the forum but have been reading the forum for a while now and it always seems there is someone on that has good information so I have a question....
I have a planned trip out to Grapevine this evening/night with a good friend of mine that rarely gets to go fishing with me...(wife and two kids....) It would be my preference to put him on as many fish as possible and any tips on where the sandies or crappie might be stacked up would be greatly appreciated.
PS: I went out yesterday evening to kind of prefish (if you will) and fished at the bubbles. Caught 15-20 but mostly small ones. Only 4 keepers so any advise on swim baits might help as well.
Thanks in advance!

If you find the fish active in the bubbles try two 1/4 ounce jig heads tied about 12-18 inches apart with 3" mister twister curly tail grubs in white. Has seemed to work well this year. I would also throw that shallow around brush on wind blown points. Good luck and I plan on hitting the vine around 9:00 tonight for some relaxing night fishing myself.

Here's my report from last weekend. I was on the lake about 13:00. Pulled into the 1st cove and landed a slot bass. Picked up some unders before my buddy joined me. After picking him up we went back to same spot and proceded to pull in some more unders. We tried the bubbles and the north side with no luck, nothing on the screens. About 16:00 we went back to the cove and started picking up small sandies. Then the big ones started. All shallow, in the bushes. I was using a white Little George lookalike from BPS. He was using a white sonic roostertail. Reel in fast up close to shore or you will catch fishsticks. I was catching either a sandie or LMB on every throw.

Thanks for the welcome Bama. I plan on trying a few spots out this evening/night and will post my successes or failures. (hope i come back with stories in the 100s.....) doubtful but i'm optimistic....
We did have that kind of success at Ray Hubbard last saturday night, with minnows and lights. Under I30 bridge. Limited out 3 guys so it was a good night....the fish cleaning was not as fun but all part of it....

Hey, I didn't mean to keep anything back. I was putting in from Dove Loop ramp and literally pulled around the corner on the east side. McPherson Slough. I don't mind sharing, there are way too many sandies out there to be stingy. In fact the more taken out the better for the lake. When I say the North side I mean the point off Murrell park. The bubbles are really best during dry years when the oxygen level is low. Shad are everywhere now and the sandies are still spawning in shallow water. I was throwing as close to shore as I could and running that heavy little bait out. We must have caught 60-mostly around 10" but we caught enough 18" for a good meal-20 fillets. I think the LMB and sandies are chasing each other around. The LMB are "pushing" baits away from their beds. You may think you bumped a twig but if you set the hook you'll come out with a prize. These techniques will work in every cove and point out there. That's the only reason I wasn't being specific about where we were.

Hey keller, any feedback on your trip? I just wanted to know if any of that stuff I put out was of any help. Sometimes people, like my wife, takes my advice and does the exact opposite of what I say and does quite well. Hope you had a great day!

Hey Mack, I didn't get a chance to use the info you provided but I definitely plan to use it. I have not been able to check forum since Friday afternoon so didn't get your added info until just now.....been fishing mostly Friday night was not very good but we caught a few. I know learning the lake is part of it so I guess that means I will just have to keep going out there.....(my girlfriend will just love that) Had more luck on Ray Hubbard Saturday night. We limited out in about 3.5 hours. So the LMB are still on beds out there? Have you fished the mouth of denton creek much? How does it fair in there at night? So do you know where the crappie might be stacked up this time of year?
