My fishing tackle is on average 17 - 20 yrs old. I'm wondering about the current rod quality vs. what I have.
I have a BPS Tournament Pitchin Stick 6 ft medium heavy straight handle that I use for my worm rod. I have a Daiwa Samurai 6 1/2 ft medium heavy straight handle rod that I've used for crank baits. I have a Shakespeare Ugly Stik in 5 1/2 ft pistol grip that I've used for spinner baits. Then I have a 7 1/2 ft flippin stick that was not very expensive back in the day.
What should I keep and what should I upgrade? If upgrade, it will be a rod at a time.
I spent the afternoon disassembling and lubricating my old reels. They seem to be in decent shape.
Thanks, Scott

Scott, if I was to upgrade anything I'd take a look at a new worm rod. Todays rods are lighter, stronger, and more sensitive than they were 20 years ago. I still have a couple I use from back in the day but they are for applications that don't need a lot of sensitivity. Go handle a few different rods and see which ones feel right to you. that makes the decision easy-when yu know what it will feel like in your hands.

WOW!!!
You da man if you can fling spinnerbaits all day on an Ugly Stick. Those are indestructable rods, but they weight a TON! my elbow hurts just thinking about it.
You would be impressed with what some the rod manufacturers are doing theses days. I would look at what technique you use the most and start looking at upgrading there.

I bought a Falcon Lowrider XG model LFC-5-166 for my new worm rod. I looked at the All Star Team, Allstar ASR, Cabelas Magtouch and the Shimano Crucial. The Falcon felt the best of the lot.
I'm thinking of getting a longer spinner bait rod to allow longer casts. The Ugly Stik works fine for pitches to cover from a boat. But, for long casts, the pistol grip is definitely not ideal.

I broke the last of my American made AllStar WR1s. I upgraded. Try a GLoomis GLX. They PROUDLY place a "Made In USA" sticker on the shipping tube. The MBR842C is light and strong for a 2X power. I still have my trusty WR2.
