So, the exhibits looked pretty cool today, so I decided to play with my new camera...

The gator gar look so content.

American Eel

Rio Grande Cichlid. Those are fry underneath it.

Juvenile Spotted Gar and Pickerel

North American Alligators

Nice stuff Krista.

I may have some sort of disease, I can't wait for winter to go after those chain pickerel again (and to try for a redfin).

Yeah, they're pretty sweet. The little ones are my favorites because they are absolute hogs!

The Rio Grande Cichlid's are only native to N. texas, right?
Very cool fish!

fishlady,

Would you happen to know of a place in East Texas where one could get some Rio Grande Cichlid for a private pond? Thanks.

North Texas? No.

Rio Grande river basin, thus the name.

The water gets too cold in the winter in North Texas. They will die when the water gets too far below 65 degrees. Some of the spring-fed rivers in the hill country have introduced populations (like the San Marcos River).

Nice pics Fishlady! I used to raise cichlids and had a spawning pair of Rio Grandes. They were one of the best spawing pairs that I ever raised. Really beautiful in spawing colors and fantastic to watch. Looks like the tanks are in great shape!!! I know that doesn't come easily!

Congratulations & Good Fishin',

Yeah, I'm liking the new camera. I got it on Sunday and today was the first day I got a chance to mess with it.

I can't wait until I get the underwater housing. I will be taking some AWESOME release shots.

Late June. We'll be driving through East Texas and we plan to stop for a few hours at the Center.
