I have both. I was not able to scroll left or right on the 797 to save waypoints on structure that I see in the side view. The 997 allows me to do this. For this alone, it is worth the 997.
The picture is much better on the 997.

I have the 997, screens big enough but I don't feel I've even scratched the surface learning it. I built a 1" square tubing guard just above mine because on TB outside transducers break off in one or two trips. So far the bracket/guard works. I have guarded the transducer on my pontoon boat too.

i just posted my 987 side imaging for sale in the TFF classifieds. i will be upgrading. excellent price for the larger screen side imaging.
