Brushpiles are covered in small fish. You'll catch 10 throwbacks for every keeper thats only 10 or 11 inches and a whole bunch more b4 you catch one over 12. But it beats not catchin at all!

Are you fishing some of the bigger piles in your area? My results have been similar on bigger piles. Smaller piles/condos in 15-25' near channels/dropoffs have been producing good size 16-18" (no joke) fish....BUT once I've caught 2 or 3 on a location I may as well plan on moving.

Been seeing that as well down here/ I believe its due to the larger fish staging for spawn. I could be way off base, but thats what I'm seeing

our spawn is pretty much done here....I did catch a couple last week that were possibly spawning on the brush in 15'(scarred up pretty bad), but as far as the shallow spawn, it ended around mid-April on my end of the lake.

move off to the edges of the piles. i find that the bigger ones will sit off the edges maybe as much as 10' off the sides, when the smaller ones cover the tops of the piles.
