At one point in time I came across a prelaunch check list for boats,It also included the basic coast gaurd requirements. I've run several searches with different key words but with little success. Can any of you be of assistance?
Thanks

Since I just started boat ownership last spring, I needed one too. I took what others suggested and tuned it up a bit for my boat. These days, I just look at it after I have done everything to double check. All of this is done AWAY from the ramp.
Here is what mine looks like:

Trim up motor, remove transom saver and motor cover. Stow in truck.
Unhook the stern trailer straps and install the plug.
Prime the fuel bulb.
Insert the key and kill switch
If launching pre-dawn install the bow and stern lights.
Turn on main power and lights.
Remove rod and reels from rod locker and strap down on bow.
Plug in trolling motor and test operation.
Unhook secondary bow safety strap ( it's on my Skeeter)
Unwind the wench 5 turns.
Move to the ramp and back down until back of boat starts to slightly float.
Unhook bow strap and get in.
Attach kill switch to clothing or arm.
Lower motor and start.

Hope this helps! It hasn't let me down yet.

Thanks Skeeter, that list holds a lot of usful info. Maybe it should be a sticker, it might help cut back on some of those boat luanch horror stories.

I start my boat/trailer check from the stern and go forward to the bow. Everything I do in the stern of the boat/trailer cant be done if I forget to do it when my boat/trailer is already in the water.

If I'm lucky I'll die with a 7' spinning rod in my hand.

Sure thing, glad to share. All these steps are designed for a solo launch.

Here's another thing I usually forget that should be in the check list.

IF you are going to tie it up at a pier, get the rope out of the compartment before launch. That way you don't have to scramble at the last minute.

If you want to make some friends, back your boat down to the water, stop on the ramp, get out and then proceed to do everything mentioned above

Yep. I've seen them move coolers, family members in and out as well as just starting to get it ready. Mostly family "fun in the sun" seekers. 99.9% of the fishermen I see don't waste time. I try to minimize my tie up time every time.

Here's another thing to remember. If there is a courtesy dock, don't block all the cleats! Leave others a place to tie up too.
It's a courtesy dock, not for long term tie up!

Oh oh oh, I know!
If it's a two lane ramp, don't back down the middle! Pick one side or the other.

Don't forget the sunscreen 30 minutes before you leave, even at 4am. You need you sunglasses and hat. My buddies have come in after a day on the lake with a bad burn too many times. You think they would learn something from that.

Thats a good check lists the only additional step that I do is unplug the trailer lights before backing into the water. Just remember to plug them back in once you have retrieved your boat. This step is probably not necessary with all the water proof lighting, but electricity and water dont play too nice:)

That all depends on your trailer. I have to leave mine plugged in to over ride the surge brakes.
