What are some of ya'lls opinions on BPS Johhny Morris Rods - and reels as well

I am a shimano and loomis man but have a few and like em - just don't hear too much on the forum when people ask about equipment

I've got a Johnny Morris reel that I bought on clearance (it was too good a deal to pass up) this year and I love it! Smooth casting and no backlash issues at all.

I bought three of these reels about 5 years ago and am no longer using any of them. All three of mine have broken and have had the paint come off of them??? Maybe I was just unlucky, but now I use all Shimano reels. All of the Shimano reels that I have bought are still in great working order.

I agree with Ranger66. The high-end Johnny Morris reel I bought last year lasted two trips, and then the reel would not engage or it made a loud clicking noise when I reeled - or both. I took it back, and got a full refund. I just don't like the BPS brand; it's low quality, in my opinion.

yeah, that is what i kind of found - i like the reels but it just seems like they don't hold up

nothing holds up like a shimano

i like the rods - have mostly g loomis but a few of the johnny morris rods and just wondered other opinions

i really enjoy casting big cranks on my J. Morris reel. last night I was casting in the ferocious wind without backlashing and thinking "Damn this is a good reel!".... I am thoroughly inmpressed with the reel. its lo speed for cranking big baits.

G-Loomis..... in my opinion- there AINT NO MO BETTA rods out there. I knocked the tip out of mine last night by shoving it in the rocks to get a bait unhung... when am I gonna learn frown stupid me! wind blew the boat at the same time and it went down a little hard.. i knew when I pulled it up what it was gonna look like... sho nuff... i screwed the pooch! Good news is, I can ship it to them monday for ~$15 and they will repair it no questions asked smile its an IMX 843. its my favorite for flipping. its ahawg stick thats as light as a finesse rod!

The Johnny Morris Signature reel I bought last year during their fishing sale is great at $100. Way too good of a deal to pass up. But I also bought a Revo SX at the same time, and i like it a lot better. It outcasts and outpulls the Johnny. Revo also seems to feel a little lighter and easier to handle.

The JM Sig is a good reel on sale, but I would go with the Revo or other comparable reels in the $150-$200 range. I bought two more Revo's with my $$.

I have a couple of JM rods that seem to pull fish just as good as my dad's loomis & falcon rods. But then again, I could outfish him with a cane pole! fish

That's the reason I switched to G Loomis. Their warranty at the time that I started buying them was unmatched. Now there are a few rod companies that have a similar policy. I also like the Hendrix rods. I almost bought one at the fishing show in Arlington.

we were on the leader board for awhile

then got demolished by weight - but caught 30-40

i think we caught the most - but what won it was a 7-10

you had to catch a 5 to be in the money - it was fun

ps - i knew you had those reels - i like em - just waiting to see how they hold up long term next to my shimano's

I am a BPS fan. I have 5 Extremes and never had a problem. Had them for 3 years. For the money I would go with the Revos. Alot better/stronger drag. I talked to a guy at the reel bar at BPS Garland and he explained the weight rating on the drag system. Even he said nothing compares to the Revos. Abu has a great warranty in my opinion.

If you get a good JM reel you have a good one But if you get a bad one you have a peice of junk. My self I have all Ardents. I have never had a better reel. And they are made in the USA not by someone in a funny hat thousands of miles away.

Does anyone know how to get the handle off of a Johnny Morris Signature reel. There are no screws, no nuts, no keeper, nothing. I have one about 9 months old and the anti back up quiet working today. I think it just needs to be lubed but you can't get inside it without removing the handle. Dangest thing I ever saw.

Push down or press in however u wanna say it on the drag star and that will lock it from moving then just unwind the handle and off it comes!!!
