Me and my buddies finaly got a chance to get back into the river this past weekend and do some fishin and had some awsome luck. The big guy must have realy been on our side. We set out about 75 pearch and a little cut carp. Our four biggest fish went 21, 24, 38, and a wopping 82lbs. The 38 was a yella and the rest were blues. The big one was around 56 inches long and here are some pics. Just for referance I am 6' and 205lbs. matt

Dad gum Junya!!!! That is the largest blue I've ever seen some from the river! I bet he gave ya'll all kinds of heck!! Where did ya'll fish from? Awesome pic man! I am ready to go myself. I can't go for a couple of weeks. Weekend after next to be exact. We plan to go north of Hearne this trip if the water is at all right.
BTW...I'm jealous!!! My biggest of three trips so far went 23lbs.
Hey bud email me that pic if you can to scott.gilleland@davita.com

No actually Yoe, I like to fish the Brazos when its up. Not bank full but about 10 feet up from where it is right now. When it's down its just too clear (typically) and the gar eat all my bait before the cats do. Also in the places we typically go I just know the holes that fish good when its up. I have fished the same holes (30 or so) two weeks later with a 2 foot drop and the holes did not produce at all. Now, I don't know the area we plan to fish in 2 weeks so it'll be new water to me no matter what the water level. I just hope the water is light chocolate milk colored!

Im gonna have to try the Brazos here around town, those are some awesome cats! I got a new Abu Garcia 6500 and I need to really test it out on a big fish. Scooter, do you fish the river from a boat? I got a 14ft and was just wondering where there are places to put it in.

right now its just under half bank , so they may put at least a three to four foot rise on the Brazos in your area. but its mostley just rain water I know that all the lakes above (granger, belton and stillhouse ) all have their gates closed. so it want stay up for too long.you're right it's that chocolate milk colored..i'll keep and eye on in and let you know when it goes back down.since its mostly rain water i guess it will be down , by this weekend. the gars is already startin to show up in little river..

I do fish only from a boat. THere are no easy places to get into the river. You just need to take a map and check out all of the bridge crossings. Go look at them to determine if you think you can get in and most imporantly.....get out! I mainly fish at the 105 bridge 4 miles west of 105. If you don't think you can pull it off then try the Navasota river off 30 or an area called sulfer springs which is at the end of Sulfer springs road. SP is off of Rock Prairie about 5 miles east of HWY 6.

I figured the bridge crossings would be my best bet. Thanks for all the help. I pass over Carters Creek that runs under 40/Greens Prairie on the way out to Gibbons and that looks like a pretty good little creek. I will have to try out one of those spots before I leave for the summer. What size boat do you use on the Brazos?

WA, I have two. I have a 1542 duracraft semiV and a 1650 Xpress SemiV. I use a 25 merc 2stk on both. If the Navasot is up you can fish up in Carter creek by going south from 30 or north from Sulfer Springs.
