I could get in big trouble on this post---I sell handmade slabs from RJR, RSR, TNT, Prune Picker,Humdinger and Dakota (hope I didn't leave anybody out)---I love 'em all!!!
I have fished with all of them and they all work great. Most of the time, I select a slab based on action, weight and color. On calm days with cooler water, I go with light slabs (5/8 oz or 3/4 oz) and fish really slow. The heavier the wind, the heavier the slab.

my slab boxes are sick...almost every brand, color, shape and size you can think of...how can you try it if you don't have it! every slab catches fish and a combo of experience, stubborness and water depth/clarity goes into choosing which to fish with at that moment. also i am going to try lakeguides thin hook idea and report on it because i have some slabs that i can't lose!

but I would have to say if you have white and yellow/chart. you have 99% of your slabbing needs covered. Thanks guys for your support of my products. Nogeese, I used to think the same thing about ch/wh. Then I started toying with other stuff. Now if I hadnt been making them and just buying them, I probably would have never tried any other colors. I have had days on the boat when I have worn out guys using (char, white, or ch/wh)-I mean flat out smoked them. Have them change to the colors I was using then caught about the same. I have been a big believer in baits having contrast. That could be ch/wh, not just solids. I like silver holographic colored baits, and started making them after enough requests. I started putting dark colored backs first on ch/wh baits, like blues, blacks, purples, and browns. The bite on these baits seemed to me to be more aggressive, may have just been me though. I believe location using baits, presentation and size of bait chosen are most important. But I would say that there are times that color choices will give you an edge, and that being colors other than ch/wh. This could be gold, silver holo, and darker colored backs. All these choices must be why my box can get pretty heavy. Why others buy slabs? I dont know you get what you pay for, and I dont care if a slab is a buck, if it is built with junk I wouldnt buy it, sure it will catch fish, but I have caught fish on any slab, give me something that lasts. I am not a slab fisherman that drags and donates so they last me a long time.

I choose a slab like many others on here have stated. Based on how it falls and flutters in the water. Color is not as important but I do have to agree I like the holographic slabs that reflect the light better. Many think color is the determining factor on the catch rate. I believe it is how it is fished and how it falls.

I've never bought a slab that didn't catch fish. One I picked up because it was a dollar worked best this weekend.
Fishing is always good, its the catching that varies.

I have been in schools at Lewisville where people were catching sandbass and I was the only one catching hybrids--I think it had to do with the size of the slab and how it fell.

I have been in schools on Hubbard where people were catching sand bass and I was the only one catching yellow bass-I think it has to do with my lack of fishing abilities.

Action I think is the most imporant. The best slab is the one you are fishing with and catching them. Johnny
