I need a decent spincast reel for a 10 year beginner. I was thinking about a $30 to $40 Zebco. Is there something better in that price range? I have a Daiwa GC120 that I am not real pleased with.

If you want a little nicer one, get the 33 Platinum...they're pretty good little reels...a step up from the standard 33.
No fish is too good for the grease.

Sadly, 33's ain't what they used to be. Never know when the drag is gonna sieze or the gears are gonna strip. I've had folks catch hundreds of fish over the past few years on these with no problems. Fill it with 12# mono, hang it on a decent rod, and get after it. Garcia 1076-C

For smaller hands the Zebco 11 or Zebco 22 are slightly smaller options.
If you know they like to fish and want to make a little higher price investment the Zebco Omega Z02 or Z03 are special little reels.

I would go with a Johnson. not really sure if they still make the johnson 10 but it was the reel that I started with several years ago and it lasted for ever. The zebco 33 doesn't do too well when kids throw them in the dirt or sand.

Zebco 202 or 33. My grand daughter "graduated" from the 202 to the 33 today, she's 9. Of course there is a Quantum AVS 2.0 in the closet. If she doesn't stay with fishing (her choice) at least I have a good finesse spinning set-up.
At least my boat and truck are paid for, woo hoo!

I bought 2 zebco 33's for my girlfriend and both of them took a poop on me within 3 weeks. Sadly zebco is not what they used to be. Man i Stil just love an old fashioned Zebco 202!!
