The 123 rule applies for all cold fronts. Fish 1 day before, then 2 & 3 days after. The day after, the high pressure usually messes up the fish, but by the second day, the fish get used to the pressure and will start up again.
Of course, the less the front affects the pressure, the less affect it will have on the fishing.

It all depends....some fronts are stronger than others. The best way to tell when the fishing is back to normal (without going) is to watch the wind. When it comes back around to the southeast, its time to go fishing.

On some fronts that may only take a day or less, but on others it can take several days. The spring fronts are usually short, but this next one is predicted to blow a good bit...watch when the wind turns to the southeast, then hit it!!

If its 10 to 15 or less from the south or southeast...go fishing. No, thunderstorms don't usually hurt much...nothing like frontal winds from the northern quadrant.

My favorite wind "meter" was always a flag hanging from a Clear Lake business...very reliable on direction, but sometimes not as good on velocity at the coast.

It takes a lot of water, a whole lot of water to freshen Galveston Bay. I've seen a couple of 100 year floods which pushed large amounts of fresh water all the way down from Trinity Bay to the Dike area but it really is an infrequent event.

These storms you are seeing now can freshen the top of the water column in places but a couple of tide changes returns things to normal.

Some of the very best, outstanding years for fishing the jetties and Causeway/Dike areas have been when Trinity Bay is turned fresh by those huge influxes of water from the Trinity river. During those times, the fish stack up at the jetties and around the Causeway/Dike waters. The fishing can really turn on when that happens. When it does happen, it is often in very late spring/early summer when a cold front stalls over the area and dumps large amounts of water for several days.

Also watch the Houston Ship Channel in summer months when large rains are present in the Trinity watershed. The deep water in the ship channel has high salinity and the trout can really stack up there along the channel also. We've often followed the fish moving up the ship channel all the way to Trinity Bay as the water returns to salt from fresh.
