I emailed Larry Crecelius for a little more info on the 6 rod rule and asked if we could carry backup rods in the boat as some situations require the use of spinning gear and others require baitcasters and maybe a backup rod for if one breaks or loses a guide or something. this was his response.
In the rules, listed below it states (6 rods used) so yes you can have as many rods in your boat as you can take unless state law states different. PR Director Larry Crecelius Rule: All fish weighed must be caught by rod and reel only. A maximum of 6 rods per boat may be used, except where state limit is set at a lesser number. No catfish may be taken from trot, jug, or limb line. Thanks LC Good luck in the tournament

I'll be checking the lake out but probably won't fish unless I just have to. I don't think I'll have to though as I think I can find the fish okay without having to wet a line. no need in me making their mouths sore the day before.

tiny, it won't be hard to find fish on tawakoni, it can just sometimes be a little more difficult to find the bigger fish. Been there one week when you could catch all the BIG catfish you wanted and then 2 weeks later nothing but little guys. Here lately, they seem to move a lot.
we have prefished and thought it was a waste, but other times thought it worked out great. i hope the fish cooperate that day.
