I don't know if this has happened to anyone else, but I am about to give up on floro: With 3 different manufacturers of line, two purchased from a major store, and one online, I have had floro snap in mid cast along the middle of the line (not by the knot) on 2 different rods.

Am I missing something or is this just not normal? I really like the idea of the low vis of floro, but I can't have line breaking just on the cast!

Am I having bad luck, or is this something common among floro?

Sounds like you may have gotten a bad kink in it when you were picking out a backlash. if you get a hard kink in the line, its going to fail right at that spot.

Are you getting any overrun during the cast? I mean...can you see any extra line coming up off the spool? IF there is, it could be you are getting a loop that is repeatedly hitting your reel, reel seat, or something else and weakening that place on the line.

Have you sprayed any misquito repellant or any other sprays that might have misted your line?

Other than these two ideas, I have no idea.

i use p-line flouroclear and ultimant flourocarbon.
the only breaking broblems i have had is at the knot when i get lazy and dont tie good knots.
make sure you retie often and check your line for abrasion

That or your line is digging into your spool when you are yanking baits that were hung up.

I've had that problem probably 3 times this year with the BPS Floro line 17lb, but then again I havent broke a fish off either this year.

Yeah, I agree with the above.
Make sure to be careful when getting loose from being hung up. If the line digs in the spool, it can cut itself.
And as Redman said, watch for loops in the reel. Had that one happen to me this past weekend, though first time in a long time.
Also, try tying the San Diego Jam knot. This knot is great for fluoro.

Just read in In-Fisherman this month whole article on Flourcarbon . It takes alot of work from knots, etc. . Looks like pain in the ! But the article did make suggestions from testing of alot of the flouros. Please read it -I was enlightened.

i dont know if you are getting them spooled at the shop or using a spooling station. but if you are doing it yourself without a station sometimes you will move the line while you have tension on it and it will cross. eventually it weakens and breaks the line, not to mention can potentially cause terrible backlashes.

Sounds like Floro isn't worth the effort to me! If I have to be that careful, maybe I'll go back to mono and braid, and put a floro leader for clear days.

I tried floro, and had the same issue with different pound test and manufacturers. And some where with withing the first few cast of a brand new spool. I took all that [censored] off my reels, respooled with braid and marked it as a lesson learned. An expensive one at that, but oh well.

I agree with Fish Killer that if flouro gets a bad kink it will break at that point in the future and it seems to always happen to me that it breaks while casting. I am switching away from flouro on most of my reels.

One of my last reels spooled with 100% Trilene Fluorocarbon, did that this weekend.

I agree, it is a REAL PAIN to break off when hung up. Now that I have the knot right, I am going to downsize line going forward.
