Grapevine 4/19/2008

Don and I had a corporate trip today from the Gaylord. We also had Taylor Clark with Taylor Made Adventures helping us today. We each had very full boats with 4 on mine and Dons boat and 5 on Taylors. It was tough to catch the bigger fish. The smaller under 10 fish were pretty much everywhere.

We started off at the island and caught some there then move to the point at Murrell there were more fish here but all were small for the most part. I tried Meadowmere as well as the west end of the island with little success. Then I tied on some 3 Illusion Lures Sassy shads on ounce jig heads and headed for the bubbles. The trick seemed to be not letting the bait sink to deep and then use a slow retrieve. We caught most of our 15 keepers here in the last hour we fished. It was close in fishing and if I offended anyone I apologize. It is hard to run the trolling motor and take fish off at the same time. Don tried Rockledge with very little results as well. The birds did not work much while we were out that morning. I think the fishing is better in the evening right now.

Water was muddy and 61 to 65 degrees. All our good fish were caught on the sassy shads with a few on Lead Babies on various colors. I caught fish as shallow as 11 and as deep as 21.

We had 15 keepers in my boat, Don's had 16 and Taylor's had 9.

I just want two things for the wind to die and the water to clear!

Don did a little better on Sunday for both trips he took out as far as numbers went.

Thanks for the report thumb, I think it was Don I spoke with as he was approaching the ramp at Katie Woods. We were just getting there and didn't fair that well. Caught about 20 with only 3 or 4 keepers out by the island. I did manage my first double on a TNT slab and a flies-by-nite fly. Too bad they were unders.

nobody offended here. I was out their on Saturday with you (white nitro) I boated about 19 keepers using a silver/black sandblaster(academy special)

At times it was crowded at the bubbles and had a few tangled lures.

Still a good day.

see ya next weekend

I hit the lake late last night just as the winds started howling. I fished from around 11:00 to 3:00 AM. I managed 11 keepers and only 1 throw back. All caught on 3" mister twister in chartruese flake with a 1/8 ounce weedless tender tube jig head. Let it fall for 5 seconds and most the time they nailed it on the drop or on a slow retrieve. Worked for me in 3 different marinas. Measured a few that were between 14-15". Maybe you should do some night trips.

As the weather warms up - the night fishing can get pretty exciting here on the vine - as well as watching all the creatures swimming around looking for a late dinner smile

I did not see a snake last night. I did see a beaver or nutrea. They may come around to the night thing when it is a little hotter than they like it during the day.

There are quite a bit of nutrea out there. At night you can usually see them swimming across the Meadowmere or Catfish lane cove.
