Once I remove the outboard I will be sinking this boat. I will be using left over fence planks for upright stakes lined around the inside. Should I place 2 stand-up buckets of bamboo? 1 in the front & 1 in the back? I have heard people talking about how hard it is to sink a boat. What I plan to do is load the inside with betwen 250-500 pounds of used concrete boulders. I plan to also cut a 6 inch round hole in the front and back and place a capped PVC pipe through each hole. When I get to the spot I plan the uncap each pipe and let it sink. What are some of your thoughts on this idea?

I tried to sink a refridgerator once and it floated like a cork.(seems they are full of styrafoam) It was a bitch to get back out of the water.

Be sure to secure the weights to the boat. A boat will usually roll over as it sinks.

Good luck with the project.

I would bet that thing would float like a cork! You would have to cut all the styrfoam out of it and then fill it with concrete instead. It could be real dangerous thing when sinking, they pitch roll sometimes. Cut pieces off and just sink the peices instead. You could make it a bigger pile that way.

That's why they call it fishing and not catching!

Just curious and I am not making any judgements but what if any are the chances that a person could get in trouble for sinking stuff like fridges and boats on public bodies of water?

I guess because I'm old, I've had time to screw up more ways.
The old fridge I tried to sink was left on a houseboat that I bought at Lewisville. Since I was having a new one delivered and the water was 25' deep seemed logical to push it off the dock to attract fish. Bad decision, it filled with water fine and just sat there half submerged. Since it was floating in a Marina leaving it there was not an option. Took four big men and a come-along to hoist it up.

Another heavy item that floats is sheetrock. Ever try to hang a sheetrock ceiling? Nothing's heavier, well except water. My adventure with sinking it occured about 30 years ago at Cedar Creek. The lake was full of moss beds at that time and the entire shore line in front of my house was a solid moss bed. I decided that if it had holes in it for the fish to sit in the fishing would be better. I carried a boat load of 4x8 sheeets of 1/2" sheetrock out with the intention of laying it on top of the moss where gravity would pull it down creating big bare spots. The sheetrock would lay on the bottom and keep the moss from growing there for a while. Great plan until after getting the sheets out and waiting for it to sink I discovered that it was floating. Couldn't just leave it so I tried to reload it into the boat. While sheetrock in sturdy when dry, it falls apart when wet. I ended up with a boat full of wet chalky pieces about 6" sq. with no place to dump it. Boat was white inside for a year. hammer bang

I would suggest getting a permit for sinking that boat. If you get caught without it...well, I wouldn't wanna see the fine.

good luck, and that oughta make a great condo if you can get it down and stay down up there at Big Tex.
