oil on lower unit?

have oil running down the side of the lower fin,under my prop,,also a little but very visible [in both cases]where the lower unit connects to the motor shaft any ideas??1985 johnson 175 v6.......thanks

Is it black? If so it is most likly fuel-oil residue. If it looks and smells like lower unit oil, you need to reseal the lower unit complete. That model OMCs were bad to leak unburnt fuel that would get the transom saver oily.

yep its black.its actually coming from the back side of the prop
