Looking to go camping at Plowman Creek, and take the family out fishing for some stripers in early May.

Anyone got some areas to look at? Any advice would be great, only been striper fishing once with a guide and we loved it.

It's nowhere close to being where it once was before the GA but give it another 5-6 years and it'll be the old Lake Whitney we knew and loved.....

Have not fished there since 2001 or so. Is it that bad?

I am looking to camp there and need to know if that is a good area for camping too. Will post this on places to stay as well.

Thanks

I am not sure about Plowman Creek but the fishing is not to bad if you put some effort in to it.

I thought Plowman was still closed from all the flooding last year ?!?!?

Anybody know what the water looks like right now?

According to the TPWD website, Plowman's is still closed. Other parks are open for camping though. I personally like using the McCowan Valley Park.

Kingfisher82,

You're 45 minutes from one of if not the best White Bass Lake in the State, and we have a fair Hybrid Striper population. Why not give the family a treat, catch several hundred fish in a day and fish Richland Chambers. It's straight down I-45 from you between Corsicana & Palestine. Try the link to Fisherman's Point Marina on my website for Camping and Accomodations. www.gonefishin.biz

Several former Whitney Guides have relocated to RC the past few years for reasons mentioned in the other posts....Golden Algae impact on the fishery at Whitney. Whitney appears to be coming back from all I've read and it'a a beautiful lake, but fishing (catching) is much easier in some other Texas Lakes.

Good Luck and Good Fishin'!!:)

Plowman is open. I just made reservations and talked with the Corps on this. It opened up on April 1st.

Thanks for the recommendation Royce. We have already made the plans and committed, but we may consider that for next year however.

The water level shows to be 2 foot low, from the pool level.
