Last Saturday while out on the lake, I turned my livewell on, but no water would pump into the live well. I could hear a motor running. Any ideas what may be wrong? Could it be as simple as the fuse is blown out? Thanks. fish

if the fuse blows, the pump won't spin.

what you got is "airlock"...an air bubble got in the intake and the pump can't prime itself...

put the motor in reverse and rev it just for a second, water will start flowing again.

If that doesn't work, check for dirt/mud dabbers nest...they'll tend to plug any opening up with dirt. I had that problem only once, then I started taping over the intake hole. Note: Make sure to remove the tape before lauching though...it does work better then!

I had the same problem Thursday. One live well worked the other did not.

Been having the same problem for a while. Only way I can get it to pump is reverse the big motor to "prime" it. It then will work the rest of the day. Happens everytime out, the pump is only 2 years old, or is that about their life? New pump only solution?

Cost of the new pump isn't as big a problem as having to work through the hatches to put it in. It's a '99 Triton TR-18 and not a lot of working room.

Could it be that maybe the mounting for the pump is set at such an angle that the prime drains out when on the trailer?

It's not the age of the pump, it's the design. They're gravity-fed pumps - they'll run it all kinds of dirty water, and push water up to the livewell, but won't pull it through air.

Funny but when I put the pump in, it worked fine for about a year. Then all of a sudden, it loses prime every time. Wondered if maybe some trash up in the pump or hose was causing that?

I coulda been wrong about it being unrelated to age...it just seems like mine is more random; sometimes it do, sometimes it don't. I can prime it by reversing with the pump turned off and it works just fine - so why doesn't it prime when backing off the trailer?

That's probably because you are leaving the livewell on when running, allowing one of the pumps to suck air. Try turning them off when you run. The older Rangers with livewells in the front are really bad about getting air bound, and apparently one of you livewells has the same problem. My guess is it's your starboard livewell, correct?

The pump impellers get worn or parts broken off of it from trash going thru the pump. Took me a year and 4 pumps to convince a guy not to have the fill running in shallow water, only the recirculating.
