What about getting a security system that you could monitor cameras for each marina at a central location. Being a police officer or former police officer the person watching should be able to notice supicious activity and then respond to that marina. It would should cut the cost. Each marina would post that they are monitored by XYZ company and armed patrol would respond in the event of suspicious activity. and that can be done on a laptop..and you can use motion sensors...this is the best way to go..1 person watching all the marinas! No need for armed patrols..just trigger an alarm at the marina being hit..and let the fisherman take care of the problem...lol T

Issue each person a weapon and a pager that stays at a marina, then sound that alarm that season has opened. Sounds like a winner to me.

You'll be lucky to get the owners to spend that kind of money on patrols!!!

Go have a cheap car alarm installed on your boat, and have them use door jamb switches on the lids. I did this with a Stratos one time, and it saved our bacon on Sam Reyburn.
It doesn't cost much, and if a perp opens a lid, then it starts going off. I slept much better at night, Plus, I could leave all my tackle in the boat!

As current L.E., and one who frequents Lake Fork regularly, I am of the theory that one can't take whats not there. Take all valuables out of the boat and leave the lids unlocked - better yet, if you can - leave them open. All of the thefts I have heard about, involving boats, they are after the equipment, not to arbitrarily to just do damage to the boat. Methamphetamine is the drug more common than crack cocaine in these times. Meth heads will do ANYTHING and be deterred by nearly NOTHING when they are hyped up and need a fix. But I think you guys might be surprised in that its not just the drug addicts committing these thefts. Though a vast majority of fishermen are your honest, hard working, good 'ol boy type, there are some with much lower morales out there that would do the same thing and may be the guy you drank beer with just a few hours before everyone turned in for the night. So, best detterrant is not give them anything to take -- take it out of the boat yourself. Not sure what off duty L.E. charges in the Fork area, but where I'm from, its $30 - $35 an hour - most places can't afford that on a long term basis. Those that do pass the cost down to their customers. The best security starts with the property [boat] owner first.

I agree the boat owner should unload ALL gear. Surveillance cameras could be installed by a DIY (do it yourselfer) for a couple hundred bucks and signs could be posted to deter theft.(big brother is watching you) Someone should solicit installing cameras. It is more cost effective than having 24/7 security guard on site. It will only deter and not stop the crime. Video evidence will convict a douche bag.
