I've tried drifing a number of times, but never fails I seem to always get hung up.

if you only fish where you never get hung up you prolly don't catch very many fish ... the key is to use a rig that snags less or one that will only break the weight off ... you can get some nylon cord that is hollow & fill it with small worm weights to the desired amount of weight ... tie a knot in both ends & use a snap or swivel snap tied to you line to attach with ... this weight is long and slinky & will crawl over most structure

I'll have to try the slinky approach for drifting.

I've been using a "drop rig" (I think that's the name for it), I make they using a 3 way swivel at the top, then I use 10# mono for the weight line, and 60# for the hook line.

The weight line is usually 18-24" long, and the hook line is 8-12" long.

I've seen y'all talking about using a cork float on the bait line to help reduce hangups, and I think that if I used the circle hooks it would help as well.

Is this the type of rig your talking about albert? I have some little 1" long by maybe 1/4" round weights that come from somewhere I could use a few of those on the weight like your talking about and they'd work a lot like a worm.

Hubbard;

I didn't mean to hyjack the thread. I've had good luck fishing North of the I30 bridges on both forks of the lake for cats. There's tons of trees in that area though.

Also on the South end along the dam about 100 yards off the shoreline there is a nice drop off that I've marked lots of fish every time I've been there, but I haven't tried baiting up in that area yet. You probably won't be able to drift along the dropoff, but you might think about anchoring off over it with you anchor line off to one of the side bow cleats which will give you a side to side swaying on the anchor line.

I have a third place marked in my GPS that's kinda in open water at the south end that I've done well off of anchor at, but I don't have the GPS coords with me.

If you see a white Bayliner Center Console with a goofy looking guy with a green hat come up and introduce yourself and I'll give you the coords for that other spot.

Won't be able to try the cord tomorrow, but I'll create a snake of these long weights, maybe use a worm weight at the top to give it a point. Maybe that will work better.
