Spring.

Couldn't wait for it to get here and all it's been is cold high water, mud, cold fronts every three days and lousy fishing.

Hmmm, sounds a lot like last spring, and the one before that and......

We all get cabin fever in the winter and long for the warm sunshine and gentle breezes of spring, spawning fish in every bush... and then we wake up and realize that spring fishing can be some of the best and worst of the year.
More worst than best.

I caught more fish in Feb. than I did in March. What I really long for is the good stable fishing of summer, fall and winter. FORGET SPRING.

See ya, I'm going to the lake to catch some spawning slabs.
grin

Sorry Ernest.
IT has been rough in North Texas again this spring. we have dodged several bad weather hits down here. It has been dryer and warmer this spring in the hill country.
Crappie Fishing has been great.

Yeah I'm at the lake house on Whitney and we have 4 foot waves at the moment. Looks like I'll just sit on the porch and watch the deer and waves drinking some coffee !!

Hey guys, I hear ya about Spring weather, BELIEVE ME. After working 4 days straight of it and a long string (has some supercells threatened Jack/Montague counties Mon night...just to pee out after I activated spotters and HAMS folks), I'm BEAT. But hey, this is what I agreed to do when I joined up with the NWS almost 15 yrs ago. Pays the bills and the job is never DULL.

If I don't have to take another call for a week about "we had a tornader, I swear" and impatient media folks who think we can determine widespread storm damage between a tornado and straight-line winds in just 3 hours after they roll through, IT'D BE A BLESSING!

Was ready to roll out with my son today for his birthday, just to see NW winds 15-25 mph. JUST GREAT! Agree with Ernest, as Feb was better than March and early this month, but ya know what? We're going anyway! The urge is just too much to resist! Hell with it. LOL

Ernest, as usual you have it pegged. Every year for me, it's exactly as you described. It's like Lucy jerking the football away from Charlie Brown every stinking time he goes to kick it. For some reason though, I'm always optimistic that this spring (whatever year is current) is going to be like that one back however many years ago when we just hammered them day after day. Maybe my foggy brain is just dreaming or maybe I'm lumping a few good days from a bunch of springs into one mythical magic mega spring memory when the weather was balmy and stable, the lakes were stable and those big fat momma bondo crappie were biting on every cast. I remember enough to know it wasn't last year! LOL. Oh well, it gives us something to look forward to every year.

I always say for Spring Crappie Fishing you get about 10 good days a year (out of 60 days), and I'm not sure you even get 10 days.

I get a lot of customers that want to fish Spring Crappie and I say proabbly not. If you want to catch Hybrids and White Bass and if the Crappie just happen to be on that day, them Maybe some Crappie Fishing.

Once the Spawn is about over (really starting about now) they start getting back to thier Brush Piles/Cover and all is good again.

I tell myself every year, I'm not going to do the Spring Crappie thing (end up tearing up the boat, knocking off Tranducers, (Only broke one this year, just happend to be the $250 HB SI one though)). But I just can't help myself doing it.

But I'm gald it's about over (Again!).

I hear ya' Ernest. I've been out a few times this year with mixed results. Lol.

Cropie,
In order to add an image to your message or your signature, you must have the image already available on a web server (like Photobucket) and reachable by a URL. This can be an image on your own personal web page, for example. To place an image within a message, simply use the following Markup Tag:

[ image ]http://www.url_to_image.com/image_name.gif[/image]

For example, if you have an image called cateye.gif and its available from your own website at http://www.mywebsite.com/pics, then you would use the following image markup:

[ image ]http://www.mywebsite.com/pics/cateye.gif[/image]

You can do the same for your signature. Click the My Home option found on any page. Then, under the Main Configuration heading, click on "Personal Information, email, password...". Look for the Signature box, and enter your desired information, including any images/markup as above.

Note: To keep the forums loading quickly for everyone, it is recommended that you do not exceed 35k for your image size.

Also, the brackets on [ image ] should not have spaces. I put them in so it wouldn't try to read the text as a picture.
