Thanks RNW. Let's not even talk about the money spent scouting.

Anyways like I stated we will see what TP&W says once I get the email back from them with the answer.

If it comes back where they say the waste of fish reguations does not include rough fish I will stop talking about it and admit I was wrong.

if it comes back that they say it does include rough fish will you and the others (TwoGuns) agree you are wrong and start following the reguations set by the state?

Thanks Lawmann that is what I was looking for. They are an edible fish thus fall under the waste of fish regulation. The problem seems to be that the Game Wardens are not inforcing the regulation. I have already sent the email and will post the reply once I get it back.

It is left to interpretation like most good laws are. The 1st line of enforcement reads, interprets and applies the law which is, as it should be. They have more knowledge about the subject than some suit in Austin, who has a degree, but has likely not been on a lake in years. So far I have asked 12 game wardens if carp are edible. All of them have said they believe carp are not edible.

As for my opinion, I can't fry one up that tastes good to save my life. I have tried dozens of times. Very carefully cleaned and smoked with butter and onions they are OK, but not my favorite. I know if one cooks carp of equal size from the Trinity, and a carp from a clear, clean lake, the fish from the less turbid water will always taste better.

I agree. I have eaten them but would much rather eat a crappie or catfish but that is just me.

That's truelly laughable. Let me explain before you think I'm just being an @ss. First off Tony is a Pro Staff not an owner so he ain't makin any money off those sponsors listed below his posts. Only benefit he may get is discounted items from these sponsors but he still pays just like the rest of us.
Now let's move on to tourneys. Where do we start, let' start with the tourney fee. Let's say it's 100 bucks per team. (team is 2 or 3 man) Now lets go with fuel expenses, Full tank in your truck say 100 bucks each way (if your lucky) fuel for boat average bowfishing rigs are runnin say a 40 gallon fuel cell so that's almost 160. Fuel for generator and fan (if applicable) another 40 bucks. Food and drinks about 100 bucks. and these are low estimates. Imagine some of these guys with the airboats with 100 gallon fuel cells running super unleaded. Now if you have say 20 boats at the tourney that's 2000 in prize money, break that down in 3 places, and first place might get 1000. Now split that between 3 people on your team and thats 333 bucks. Now add up all your expenses and tell me how that comes out to a man makin money off of bowfishing.
I didn't even mention what it costs us in equipment .

Last i checked "PRO" meant "professional" and that means you get paid to do something or are given stuff (which is the same as getting paid).

If that is not the case, he sould be called "amatuer staff" or hard core hobbyist

there are folks who do make money bowfishing and do so by selling their catch

Gator Gar, Redfish & Catfish have ready markets....bfing has a catch rate per hour that makes it VERY profitable....I do know that Gator Gar can be sold for 6 bucks a pound to fish mongers...

.I have a pic some where that shows a evening of Bfing that boated 22 gator gar that ranged in size from 80 pounds to 225 pounds

even if the amout of meat taken per fish was very very low it would be a good payday I don't care who you are....I would imagin thats why some in the bf world have a fit when limits are proposed on how many big gar can be taken....takes out the profitability....

they can sell Tilapia, Catfish, Gar, Buffalo taken by Bfers and If I look for it I think I have a post or two from a Bfing forum that backs me up on this

no officer sir..... carp do not get "high" on hemp seed

I know that Fiesta sells both buffalo and carp.

Some here have bought carp from Fiesta for multiple purposes. Also, WRJesse can attest that some of his fishing buddies take the carp they catch home for eating (check out the White Rock Get-Together thread for reference.) I also angered an Indian dude by not letting him take my 18.5 lb carp home at that same event.

Bottom line is; Fiesta wouldn't be selling carp if it wasn't profitable. The main problem with carp is the amount of bones, but there is certainly a market for them out there, otherwise Fiesta would be using the counter and freezer space to stock other species of fish.

My best friend is a bowfisherman who uses the carp and buffalo he catches for catfishing at Lavon. I most definitely DO NOT have a problem with that!

My problem with BFing is that some BFers are not sportmen, I just found a website promoting a tournament during the spawn, and everyone is excited about how easy it will be to kill tons of carp when they are all congregated in the shallows getting busy, and how they won't even have to aim... That, my dear friends, is not the behavior of a sportsman.

Lawmann, Texas Two Guns, and every other BFer; even if we don't agree on BFing, we can share a cold one anytime.
