Wondering if there is anyone here that would be willing to part with some old hand tied crappie jigs the may not be using anymore. I have been working with a lot of different kinds and honestly the tube with jig heads I really do not like at all. I have also tried some cheap jigs but dont seem to have any luck with them at all over the last two weeks. Although it may just be the angler and not the jig. In need of some guidence please

I agree...get you some Jigum Jigs, and the Ernest Paty Crappie 101 DVD. They've helped me tremendously. Confidence is a big factor in catching crappie.

A couple of things here. Tube jigs, and jig heads, catch way more crappie than hand tied jigs. Fact is just simple that more people use tubes, and plastics than use hand tied jigs. I make my own hand tied ones, and still use alot of plastics.

Put the jig in the water and work it slow, if the water is productive you will catch fish. You have to be patient, and start out with tried and trues like black and chartreuse, chartreuse, white, and use some 2"curly tails. If the fish are there, and you keep the jig in the strike zone long enough, you'll get bit.

Not to say that Jigums are not good jigs, or that Ernest's video won't help you get aquainted with jig fishing, but just to say, it's not the jig.

It's great to see that some are confident enough to truly believe that it's not the JIG that matters.

Sure, a Ford Escort has 4 tires and can get you from point A to point B, but so does a Cobra. To say that all jigs are the same, and that color doesn't matter, then my question is: How many of you out there only have ONE kind of jigs and all of them are ONE color combo? Be honest!!!!

in all honesty. I think what you need is to pay one of these guides and go with someone who helps you catch fish. Learning how, is way more important than learning with what. Once you get the how, you can work on the with what. After you have set the hook a few times, things will become more clear. Time, will help you understand what jigs to use. I am not of the impression that hand tied jigs are really any better than tube jigs.

I'm with Wylie. I tie my own jigs and use them a lot, but mostly plastic Yum bodies on heads that I pour. I think his point is not to worry about hand tied, plastic tubes, color, etc., but to get the experience and confidence to fish a jig... period.

How vs. What?...
Agree 100% with Wylie and Sandwich Maker that HOW is way more important. You can have the most expensive tools in the world and yet not fishing where the fish is, then they are useless. You can locate the fish, but yet know how it feel when they bites, then the million dollars equipment won't help you set the hooks.

Once the HOW is somewhat acquainted, then I like my WHAT to be as good as I can have it. Why? because I am a true believer that countless equipments (truck/boat/trailer/tm/electronics etc) that we bought and spent in thousands only help us locate the fish. Some smallest items which directly envolve in catching the fish are RODS/REELS/LINES/HOOKS or JIGS. That's where the impact of a direct hit has its true meaning.

In the end, all I want is my fair share of success because I paid my due being on the water to learn the HOW and having adequate WHAT helps me land the catch!!!

My point is that from the original post, he said he just doesn't like tubes and jig heads. Wanted some old hand tied jigs. I could send him all the handtied jigs I have that I don't use, (there would be lbs) and it wouldn't make him a better fisherman. Fishing with someone who can teach him to catch fish, like Ernest did for me several years ago, will make the difference. Everyone on this forum, sending him all there jigs they don't use wouldn't He would however have an awesome collection of a variety of sizes, shapes, and colors. So when he does gain some experience, he'll be loaded with a bunch of hand tied jigs that nobody wanted.
