Again, this weekend.
I stopped and looked at it today. It is going to be on!!!
I wish we'd gotten rain Monday and Tuesday but it is still high enough right now.
I've got 350+ perch ready. I checked them today and they look great.
I set out my #1 perch trap baited with chicken liver in a ziplock punched full of holes at sleepymedics tank. Hopefully I will get some poly's in it tonight. I only have three in it right now but would love to have 30-40 more. Who knows. Heck I am starting to think I got them all last year. If the liver doesn't work then perhaps he put a flathead in the pond and forgot to tell me!!
We are going to fish from Thursday to Sunday and I have a few different groups coming so I don't go over my limit! Last time we had to cull fish.

I have a 25 hook trotline I was thinking of setting out across the mouth of the Navasota river where it dumps into the Brazos. i have never tried it. Has anyone ever tried to do this where a big creek or small river intersects? Got any hints???
My plan is to sink it but we'll see.

We set a trotline acros the mouth of the little brazos on the brazos just down from 21, didnt do to much though. Tear them up scotter. I want to see pictures on monday.

Just to let ya know I did finaly get some river fishin done. We fished one evening in the navasota on hwy 30 a while back but the river was on the fall, it was slow caught a couple channels and that was it.

Matt, I just flat gave up on the Navasota. I have fished it alot in the past. It's easy to fish but the quality/numbers are just not there. Since I have a 2 year old and a wife that works every other weekend I hit it hard when I can. I have to go with a spot that has the best success even if it kills me doing it.
I will take my camera and try to get alot of pics. I still haven't taken the time to learn to post pics but I will send them to someone to post them for me.

Scott - hope you get into them and the bait holds out! Should if you kept it this long and they're lively. Just can't get a better feeling than grabbing a line and feeling that constant sudden downward surge from a nice flathead!! Gee, I can't wait to get to Toledo Bend in May, but really got to start hitting the Colorado since it's only 15 minutes from me. Bad thing is, the Colorado just isn't deep enough for any distance for most fishing...too many portages and shallow water for most boats...even flat-bottoms. Canoe or a flat-bottom without a motor does fine.

Good luck!

Thanks BB. I just got back from pulling up my traps. No more poly's! Dangit. I guess I got most of them out already.
My perch were doing great last night. My buddy has a room full of vats that he winters his talipia in. I use one of the smaller 300 gallon vats for my bait. It has two lagre air stones (hooked to the blower) and has well water running through it constant. I put about 2 cups of salt on the bait when we start catching them and then about 1/2 cup the day before we pull them out. They stay pretty good that way.
If the weather works out we'll start setting out tommorrow evening around 9 PM.
See ya.

Good Luck. if we get 2"-3" of rain before Saturday i may be on it this weekend. i have ran lines on the Brazos one time at night and we got so confused on what was where and what was what we pulled out before we got lost too bad. my dad and a buddy ran it alot at night when they were younger. this time they sat back and drank beer while me and my brother ran the lines.

Man, if you have your stuff together running lines at night is no big deal. I would prefer to at least get the boat in the water before dark and get everything set up but running lines is no biggie. In fact I catch alot of fish between 9PM and 3AM. Then it's time for bed.
You have to be prepared to do it though. I have three spotlights in my boat. One for me and one for my line man (one for a spare). I mark all of my lines with plastic clothes line pins. I place DOT tape on the flat sides of the pin and then tie a piece of pink marker tape to it. We reuse them everytime and they last several years. I use fiberglass rods with DOT/marker tape when there is nothing to tie to.
WHen you use this setup, your lines are easier to find in the dark than in the daylight.
Once you learn how to read the river, which just takes practice you have no trouble getting turned around because you know the type of water you would and never would fish.
WHere I get turned around at night is open water lakes. Man, you can go a long way "out of the way" to get where you're going!!!
Oh, one other trick I sometimes use to avoid stumps at the suface of the water is I mark it with a bleach jug with a 3 foot leader. I just tie it or use a an old hook.

i mark all my lines with pink or orange marking tape. we will tie a piece 2' long to the limb so we dont miss it. tie the flag on the same limb as the line but higher so you can see if you have a fish on you see the flag jerkin in the air. but most of the big yellas will just sit until you start pullin on the line. i saw a guy on the Brazos using some kind of foil lookin tape. it was shiney so when you put a spot light on it, the flag reflects back.

The markers make setting the lines out much quicker because you just clip it on...you don't have to tie it. DOT tape and the plastic clothes pins can be bought at any walmart for about $8. It's easy and they work great. Also you never leave any tied to trees to junk up the river.

We'll I fished for 3 days and I am beat!!! We did not do all that great. We ended up keeping around 20 yellas up to 10 lbs and 11 blues to 28 lbs. I had a great time but the river conditions were bad!
