I caught a few sandies down on the Nolan this past weekend. All were females and the eggs seemed to be high up in the stomach. I seem to remember when I caught a few of them in the past during this time, that they were more in the belly and the fish looked "fatter". Is this any indication that they are not ready to spawn yet? I seem to remember the females head upstream first and the males follow later. Any responses would be greatly appreciated.

You have it backwards. The small males go upstream first.

I've been catching lots of S.B. in 6' - 8' of water on the main lake shore lines, lots of females that are about half spawned out. Lots of S.B. spawn on the main lake!

Yeah I was told that they spawn in running muddy water. Is that right?

My experience with the sand bass spawn, is that they will shoot up creeks, and rivers looking for sand and gravel bar areas. They do like the current, and don't care if it is muddy or not. Current, and water levels, along with water temp are the key factors. Was actually watching them spawn on the nolan this week.
