Any recommondations on a good fly floatant? I have been using the old Gudebrod silicone based and it takes forever to dry. Any newer product recommondations?

I have some Gehrke's Gink as well as some Loon that both seem to do OK.

Thanks I have seen the Loon. I'll try that.

You are welcome Terry, I hope it fits the bill. Floatant seems to be one of those areas that has a different satisfactory solution for different anglers.

Jerry, the condition I have, "anglosis" compunded with "ty-itis" is, apparently, incurable. I'll be forced to live with it the rest of my life wink

I had been using a dry powder product called Frogs Fanny for years. Works well and goes on dry. I was paying about $6.00 for a very small bottle. I learned that Frogs Fanny could be replicated with a compound known as fumed silica. I found a place on the web to buy fumed silica at $6.00 per quart. A quart is 2 lifetimes worth.

Dhooper,
Great advice. But, are you saying you prefer the powder to a liquid floatant. Less mess? Does it last longer? Or is it just cheaper? I have been using Umpqua and Muscilin, and been very happy.
Thanks,
Gray

Dhooper,
One other question. Any chance you could share your source for silica? Or is it easy to google?
Thanks again,
Gray
