Don't really. Just keep the RPM's around 3500. Don't romp on it with the hole shot. Roll on easy.

Make sure you have it prop'd right and enough pitch. That way you're getting all the pitch you can, and not having too much slippage. Call Steve at Steve's props, and he'll tell you what you need or what you can do. This will get you the most fuel economy out of your boat of anything you do to it.

Make sure your compression is good, and you're getting good fire to the plugs.

Saying that everything on motor right and not knowing what boat your motors on. Like Michael said prop is main thing. It has been my experience, if you have a heavy boat, a high-five prop works well.
