hmmmmm
Thread title = "Anyone ever heard of using SOAP as bait?"
Guess you don't read subjects lines either... No mention of Shad, nor has there been a mention of Shad in any of the other 50 threads that someone has gone on and on and on about shad...
Sorry that subject lines and spelling is so difficult...
We get the picture you think shad is god's gift to bait... Now for those of us that would like to learn about other baits could you PLEASE refrain from throwing shad out time and time and time and time and time and time and time again?

LMAO my spelling is up to par. Micheal, Michelle,Michial all the same to me. As far as refraining from throwing shad out time and time again thats not going to happen. Bottom line it works. Read any post from Tiny or Jackieblue or any other proven catfisherman who CATCH fish on a consistant basis. They all use shad. I can read just fine and read the subject line. My opinion is just that. Regardless if you agree or not LOL. Or want to hear it or read it. Cause by the volume of PMs I get on catfishing others out there do want my opinion lol. As far as the soap. I can see it working for channel cats. As well as many other prepared baits. I dont believe it is a consistant bait for trophy blues or flatheads. If you are targeting channel cats this could be a good bait. I am sure you will catch a few blues too. BUT I do not think it is worth using if you have shad

Zote... is the soap and yes it catches channels... and yes flat heads eat them ...and yes shad is the best bait for big fish .. and yes Danny loves shad......and yes your name is spelled funny ...and yes I look at how to spell names before I type them ....and yes I believe Danny did not do that on purpose....and yes I fish with both......along with punch baits dip baits and anything else I think a cat will eat....and yes this is the end of my post.....and yes I lied ...and yes I wish people would not get mad at each other on the best fishing forum in Texas......And yes I have a funny name (Terry Terry) and yes that is my real name......and Yes I hope the guy who started this post wacks the channels on Zote soap at fork and reports back on how he did......and yes I looked at his name but was scared I would miss spell it .........

AMEN BROTHER TERRY TERRY!
I could see a channel or small blue eating soap bait. I do not see a flat eating soap. I could see a channel eating the bait AND THEN the flat eating the channel.
So if your bragging about catching big flats consistantly on soap... your realy using live channel cat for bait... which apparntly works well for some people who leave there lines in the water for five days.
Personaly I think I could catch more fish by running my lines every 3-6 hours at night. Not by waiting for 5 days to pass for running my lines.
my nickles worth...

I went out last Thursday at Elk City spill way. I netted up some shad and cut off 3-4 inch flays. I baited my wives pole, chunked it out for her, and handed it to her. I did not even get my pole baited for she had a 5-6 lber on. She caught 4 to my ZERO. I was to buisy baiting her up, stringering the fish, ect. We fish for an hour. Eat pretty good baked tonight.

Wow! This place has become a hater-gripe hole. Brother Terry, I do very much appreciate your humor and yes my typing abilities mess up my spelling. Every time I get on here someone is all riled up over someone elses opinion and yes, like a sucker I get itno it too....dang it! Small live channel cats make excellent bait and if you catch them legally, not knowing they are on the line then there's nothing illegal about it. Period. THe state law prohibits trotlines being left out for more than 30 days and that its it. Heck the guy that got me addicted to the sport of line fishing caguth the Lake Palestine record on my birthday in 1993. THe fish was weighed 3 days after being caught and weighed 99.5 pounds. Guess what....the line was baited the night before with frozen grasshoppers. I swear it! Not a one perch or one shad....a dang grass hopper. I was working for him at the time and I loaded his boat, bait, dipnet the day that they went to bait and the day they caught the fish.(by the way I was invited both times and declined!
As for catching more fish by running them I totally agree. I don't trotline the lake anymore but instead I fish the Brazos river near my home. I just got back from running my traps this afternoon at my buddies fish farm and I am up to 300+ perch. I have them in a vat and they are ready to go. I have traps in another buddies pond for mudcats and hopefully will end up with 20+ 7-8" poly's. We are going to hit the river on Thursday evening till Sunday morning. We typically run the lines every 3-6 hours when where not sleeping (3 AM until 8AM). We will catch alot of flatheads and hopefully a few big ones. All that....as if anyone cared. Ooops, I'm just kinda excited I guess.
Anyway, good luck to ya if you get to go anytime soon.

Its all good ScooterG I think there is only one person on here who really has an issue with that. And I know where your coming from on the channel thing. I have been catfishing a long time and very successful in most cases. I have caught channels and crappie and other fish on my line and caught an ap as well. I check the bellies of every ap I catch to see what they were eating that is how I know. And I know what your saying. And the subject from what Thompson told me was soap cause I cannot read apparently hahahaha. I just wanted to make sure the people that did not know about soap know that it will primarly catch channels. And not typically bigger fish or aps and blues in most cases. I am just here to help others and spread some knowledge. If people dont want my assistance or advise or my opinion then I will just post pics. Cause I dont think I can reframe from posting SHAD WILL CATCH YOU QUALITY FISH. oh one more thing /spell check on! hahahahaha

I knew we were on the same page...heck, what are we even doing up at this time of night...I've been sharpening hooks and re-rolling lines! I haven't used the soap in several years and really it is begginer trotline bait. It doesn't work that good but it will get the stink off your hands!!LOL I used to have alot of trouble getting perch and I hate to buy it. If I had to buy what I have caught in the last week I would have spent $100+. It's nice to have a fish/deer farmer as a great friend. I help him out and he set up a pond for my bait. As for shad, we can't get them in the river. I can cast net them behind Lake Somerville but I don't have time to try to keep them alive. A month ago I netted some monster gizzard shad. One measured 17 inches but I threw them back because I had no way to keep them alive. I could have cut them and froze 'em but the Brazos just doesn't have agreat popultion of Trophy Blues so we don't even go after them. It does have an incredible population of flatheads hence the live perch and mudcats. What erks me about the state rules is I would like to use PURCHASED (with a receipt) channel cats for bait. Pound for puond they are cheeper than perch. They catch fish and why not make it legal if you buy them from a fish farm??? See ya'll.

jeeees people...
I think EVERYONE knows by now that some of you swear by shad... you don't need to repeat that with every post talking about anything else for bait...
Let it go we all hear you the first dozen times y'all told us about shad. Some of us like using OTHER baits. chill out dude & practice what you preach ... by now we purty much know who on here throws back all the bigguns but they still go ahead & say it every time
regards albertking catfishing is now an industry ... it's best for the industry to eat baby catfish
