How does Gulp Alive work in the surf during the summer? I'm heading to the coast this summer and love to wade the surf. I usually use live shrimp and soft plastics to catch trout. Does the Gulp Alive work? If so it sure would be easier to use than live bait. Thanks

It is hard to say that Gulp Alive will work better than live shrimp but we have had days were the Gulp out fished the live shrimp and days they was equal and days the live shrimp worked best. It is hard to beat the Gulp either way. Not sure if that helps you or not but good luck.

Yup. I will always take them to the surf. I had one trip last year where I caught a limit of 20" trout by dead sticking them in the 2nd gut. It was the only thing that worked. The next trip to the surf they didn't work, it was croaks only. They definately deserve a spot in the box.

Gulp shrimp kills the trout in the Florida panhandle.

I like to fish them for specks in the surf with a popping cork about 30 inches underneath on a small 1/16 oz jighead or rig it on a 1/0 bait hook and insert a small nail in the Gulp shrimp for weight or attach a small split shot about 6 inches above it. I find that you have to pop it a little more than with a live shrimp to get more strikes. I also catch bluefish, sand trout and ladyfish when I'm fishing the surf. I also do this with other shrimp imitations like DOA's, Exudes, Storm, etc...
If I'm fishing over deeper shells or reefs in the bays and marsh, I'll use a jighead and bounce it off the bottom. Flounder really like it using this method as well as reds and specks. New Penny, Pearl, and Molting colors are the ones I have the most luck with using the Gulp.
Good luck to all!

sometimes. Ive caught fish on Gulp! on some days but they definetely are better for catfish than trout. They still catch all sorts of fish, but i prefer live bait. Iguess it depends on what youre fishing for, but it does help to have a bit of gulp in your tacklebox when you need it.
I have a tank of fish in my basement... if it were up to me, I would let them loose in my pool so I could fish in my backyard!

Thanks for the info guys. I think I'll grab some before my next trip to the coast. I just wish I could get down there again before June. At least I have the June trip to look forward too.

RBadley, June ought to be PRIME TIME to try those Gulps for your adventure. This should be about the time that the shrimp will be along the beach and the trout and other species along with them. I know of a podnuh of mine that also soaks all of his other soft plastics in the Gulp Juice and he says it's equally effective on the pescados. Try also to rig them on the weighted hooks that have the barbed pin or spring attached to the hook. They are the ones that bass fisherman use for worms and tubes. It makes them flutter a little better than a jig head. Give a report when you go. I love the surf during that time of year.
Good luck to all!!!!

I had several triple tail about swim out of their scales to get to my Gulp shrimp on some grass mats. But like any other bait..it has its "on" days and "off" days....not a bad addition to the arsenal though.
