I have heard that the pond behind the George Bush Library is a good place to go. Maybe someone will know more and can give you more detail.
Good Luck...

hey man, I use to live there..the bond a George bush library is ok..lot of mal-nutritioned fish there though I caught one that was about 25 inches and weighed about 2 lbs..the pond at the police station on texas has fish in it..there is also some ponds at central park(exit harvey rd or hwy30 from hwy 6 make the u-turn and its on your right) also there is a pond if you go about 1/2 mile or so down hwy 30 toward huntsville there is a pond on the left..kinda have to go off road..there is a pond off of hwy 6 that you can see from the road its before the emerald parkway exit I believe..dont bother with lake bryan but you might try lake sommerville

If you go to down boonville past the miramont golf club, and stay to your left a few miles, there is a nice pond out there in a midly developed neighborhood. there are a few houses out there and paved roads.
you WILL get asked to leave by a few different people out there. I have fished it about a dozen times over the last two years on weekdays in the mornings. lowest chance to get caught.
plastic salamanders and a blue/silver rapala have worked well. The best fish I pulled out was probabyl about 5 lbs. Fished it twice with two guys about two years ago who know people who knew people, in a small john boat. We caught several from 3-5 lbs.
Lots of fun, but the owner drives a black tahoe/suburban and will ask you to leave.
Fun place though.

well i went out to Gibbons creek res. Sat morning about 7:30-3:00. caught 1 drum (about 20-24" didn't measure, 2 keeper size crappie that i sent back, 1 stipped bass. And didn't get one catfish when that was what I was fishing for the whole time.
I was fishing down on the bank where the dam let out, right next to the bank of rocks. caught everything on minnows, crappies on live minnows that were scaled and cut near the tail. and the other two were caught on minnow fillets on the bottom.
all in all a great trip, needed that catch. It's been a while since i havn't caught anything in a long while.
