I have a small (17' Nitro with a 90hp) boat, and was considering downsizing my 2004 Ford Expedition (4.6L) to a more fuel efficient model. Problem is, a Ford Explorer, for example, with a V6 only gets 1 mpg more than my Expy with a 4.6 V8. So, 2 questions...

Is there a truck or SUV out there that can pull my boat 2.5 hrs to Lake Fork, and get good mileage?

Will buying a chip for my Expy increase the mileage much?

The main reason for wanting better mileage is not towing mileage, it's 40 miles per day back and forth to work mileage...

Also, here's a good swebsite for comparing mileage on different vehicles:

What kind of mileage are you getting? I get 15-17 around town in my 2000 Ex with 4.6L and around 18-19 on the highway. It drops to 12 towing my 18ft Ranger.
